The impact of migration and displacement on the health of refugees and migrants depends on conditions in their countries of origin, exposure to factors such as policies, access to health services, integration into host communities, as well as living, working, environment and travel conditions. Ensuring that health systems are sensitive to and health professionals are aware of the health needs of refugees and migrants is essential for protecting and promoting the health and well-being of refugees and migrants, which also benefits host communities. It is a global health priority and an integral part of its core principles: the right to health for all.
Against this background, the World Health Organization is launching the first World Report on the Health of Refugees and Migrants, which presents the available global evidence on the health problems refugees and migrants face during their travels and in the host country, and the health status of these populations worldwide. The report identifies trends, gaps and practices in protecting and promoting the health of refugees and migrants and highlights factors and actions that can shape and improve their health and wellbeing.
The virtual press conference to launch the report will be streamed live on all WHO social media channels. Interpretation will be available in all official UN languages – Arabic, Chinese English, French, Russian and Spanish – as well as Hindi and Portuguese.
