ALBANY, N.Y. (July 1, 2022) – “With Pride Month ending, I want New Yorkers to know that our dedication to promoting and protecting the health, well-being and human rights of members of our LGBTQ+ community is more important. My job – and that of all public servants – is to uphold our State’s national leadership in preserving diversity and equality for every New Yorker, with dignity and respect.

We are making significant progress, but much remains to be done. By studying the health challenges facing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and gender incompatible New Yorkers, we will design and develop programs based on identified needs. New and annual funding will be deployed to increase the support we provide to healthcare providers and support providers who support LGBTQ+, so that they can expand their capacity, resources and infrastructure. Today and every day, we thank them for all they do to care for this community day by day.

Thanks to community-based organizations across the state, we have partners who enable us to maintain an open dialogue with LGBTQ+ New Yorkers so we can increase access to welcoming, affirming, and evidence-based health education, human services, and holistic, quality care. A department will appear for the LGBTQ+ community, and we look forward to celebrating the upcoming Black Pride event in New York this August.

Building a healthier and more just New York requires us to care for each individual, just as they are. For LGBTQ+ New Yorkers: we celebrate you, we respect you, and we will continue to work to ensure this Country cares for you by building a public health and healthcare system – free of stigma – that is inclusive, sensitive, and most importantly: only.”
