Video games often mix fun and commentary. There are many games in which a character narrates an engaging speech that encourages the player to think and reflect on the reality of the person saying the strong words. Fictional, or not, the words spoken by the characters can be really inspiring or upsetting.
There are many iconic video game characters who give lectures to the player or his crew. Some are completely believable and make the player forget that he has a controller. What may be more difficult to hear in these speeches is when the leader is preparing for a fight. So which language of video games can be considered iconic?
10 The Healthy Human Mind (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2)
As the penultimate mission of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign, “Just Like the Old Times” offers a great talk by Captain John Price. Ezio proves with this discourse how wise and powerful he is. It is a beautiful speech and perfectly sums up the growth of Ezio’s character. From a rebellious young man to one of the bravest and greatest leaders of the new order Assassin. There’s a reason Ezio Auditore is so well remembered, even after his story is over.
6 There Is Light In The Darkness (Fallout: New Vegas)
Fallout is a rare, wonderful, and unattractive franchise. Fallout: The New Vegas Fallout franchise offers many interesting characters to fans. Players who discuss their options for a while.
One character is Joshua Graham, featured in the Honest Hearts DLC. Towards the end of the DLC, Joshua offers a glimmer of hope, even after the dire state of his being and location. At the end of the game, Wyatt gives a great talk to those who are watching live TV. After an Nazi victory on an alternate timeline, the Americans fell to their knees.
Wyatt warns the Nazi regime that he is playing a hopeful song in the background. Wyatt’s passion is felt through the television screen, and is utterly contagious, in search of a patriotic and free country, and a freedom that belongs to a free people.
Shots and explosions all over Outer Haven, Big Boss gives himself one last look in the mirror, the last of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, and perhaps the last, before heading into confrontation. It’s here that the Big Boss remembers all those years ago, and discovers “The Man Who Sold The World”.
“Venom” listens to a recording of Snake Big Boss, who tells him who “Venom” is. “I’m the Chief General, and so are you.” The Big Boss is so inspiring, and great, where a man eagerly changed his entire personality to recreate the laws of the world. It’s epic and perfectly captures the Metal Gear saga.
3 Vorkuta Burns (Call of Duty: Black Ops)
Call of Duty: Black Ops’ second campaign missions Alex Mason and Viktor Reznov continue to start an uprising to escape from Vorkuta, a wild Soviet labor camp in northern Russia. As the men gather at a radio tower, Reznov gives a powerful speech to help reinvigorate the fleeing men as it resonates throughout the workplace.
His speech is not surprising, and includes even the harshest criticism in favor of Reznov. He talks about war, about the exploitation of young people for their country, and how the time is now. The lecture is the perfect call to action, as the inmates of Vorkuta seek death rather than slavery, even if a Thundergun Easter egg would also help.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is a special feature for its story. Players will not only embark on Dragonborn’s journey, but also fight the evil World-Eater Alduin, as well as face the decision of war. Players can ship from one side to the other, Imperials or Stormcloaks.
The leader of Stormcloaks is Ulfric Stormcloak, Jarl of Windhelm. The civil war in Skyrim is about the northerners and their rights and freedoms and beliefs. He gives a powerful speech about why he’s fighting, and even if the player is against Ulfric’s rule, they can’t blame him for his dedication.
1 Life’s End (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater)
Hideo Kojima’s creative genius has no end, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is no exception. When The Boss Naked Snake betrays him, he dares throughout the game why he would betray his country, and him in particular.
In the final confrontation, The Boss gives Snake a great talk. It’s a one-sided conversation, Snake just listens, and his words fascinate him. It’s one of the saddest scenes in the franchise. His love for his tutor is strong, and The Boss is encapsulated and beautifully tragic. He is one of the greatest characters in Metal Gear, and his character had a domino effect throughout the franchise.
