When movie fans turn to IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes for recommendations and reliable review aggregation, gamers turn to Metacritic. Gamers often go to Metacritic to find the top rated video games of the moment or history, but the site can also be used to find the worst the industry has to offer.

The worst Metacritic games are simply disappointing or of poor quality. From gameplay to writing and everything in between, these games were received so poorly that the often divided critics and users agreed that these games were better left buried.

10 Infestation: Survivor Stories Is The Worst Zombie Shooter

Thanks to the massive success of Left 4 Dead and the revival of Resident Evil, the 2010s were inundated with zombie games that varied wildly in quality. One of the worst zombie shooters to come out was Infestation: Survivor Stories, formerly known as The War Z. To see also : OSU football on Madden, NCAA football video games | Sports | ocolly.com. That said, Infestation only got a 20 on Metacritic.

Reviews pointed out Infestation’s buggy release status and broken mechanics, although they acknowledged that updates have fixed some of them. However, these updates failed to fix Infestation’s biggest problems, such as mediocre gameplay and lack of innovation, which didn’t help it stand out in an oversaturated genre.

9 Deal Or No Deal Was An Unsuccessful Game Show Game

9 Deal Or No Deal Was An Unsuccessful Game Show Game

Licensed games based on movies and TV shows don’t have the best reputation among gamers, but it’s even worse for games based on game shows. Game shows aren’t always popular to begin with, and their official games are often dismissed as mindless cash grabs. Take Deal or No Deal and its 20 Metacritic score, for example.

Deal or No Deal’s biggest problem wasn’t that it was based on a game show, but that the TV show’s core gimmick could only be translated into a mini-game on the DS. Worse still, Deal or No Deal’s gameplay loop ended up repeating the same mini-game with a few new additions. This may interest you : Aspyr has fixed a landmark Star Wars KOTOR II bug on Switch. 8 Alone In The Dark: Illumination Is The Least-Favorite Installment

After starting out as one of the premier survival horror titles in 1992, the Alone in the Dark series fell into obscurity thanks to games that didn’t improve with each subsequent entry. To see also : The Best Games Featuring Predator. Illumination is the latest entry in the series, and it could be the last.

Illumination only scored 19 on Metacritic, with most reviewers declaring it the worst part of the series. The best that critics and users had to offer was that Illumination had an interesting gimmick in its flashlight mechanics, but that couldn’t save the nearly unplayable game from its poor enemy AI, poor graphics, and thin story.

7 SPOGS Racing Felt Like An Unplayable Relic

7 SPOGS Racing Felt Like An Unplayable Relic

Racing games that are essentially Mario Kart bootlegs are fairly common, but few are as universally planned as SPOGS Racing. However, what makes SPOGS Racing remarkable is not only its low Metacritic score of 18, but also how outdated it seems. In short, SPOGS Racing is a game about racing pogs that was released in 2008, not in the 90’s.

Aside from the odd novelty of SPOGS (Sports Player Object Gyros), critics and users had nothing else to say about SPOGS Racing. The gameplay was pretty generic, the controls and graphics were poor, and it was one of the worst Wii titles to ever sell. The best user reviews of SPOGS Racing came from either bots or sarcastic users.

6 Double Dragon II: Wander Of The Dragons Didn’t Have Much Beyond Its Nostalgia

6 Double Dragon II: Wander Of The Dragons Didn't Have Much Beyond Its Nostalgia

The thing about Double Dragon is that it owes its longevity to nostalgia. The problem was that these beat ’em up games could never surpass the original arcade games, leaving the franchise stuck in time. Wander of the Dragons was a remake of Double Dragon II: The Revenge and it was unsuccessful.

Wander of the Dragons scored 17 on Metacritic, with most reviews noting how uninspired it was. The apparently unfinished state, which shows up in errors and glitches, was not helpful. While some people enjoyed Wander of the Dragons, they were nostalgic Double Dragon fans, but even their praise felt weak.

5 Vroom In The Night Sky Was An Unsuccessful Nindie Launch

In 2017, the Nintendo Switch game store began highlighting and selling up and coming indie titles. One of the first games featured in this spotlight was Vroom In The Night Sky, a simple game where players helped Magical Girl Luna ride horses across the realm. It’s also worth noting that Vroom is one of the lowest rated Switch games of all time.

Vroom has been criticized for its repetitive gameplay loop, lack of imagination, and rushed development. Many even wondered how it was allowed to be one of Nindie Spotlight’s flagship titles. Vroom scored 17 on Metacritic, and its three perfect user ratings were jokes that “praised” its terrible quality and odd use of the onomatopoeia “vroom”.

4 Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust Lived Up To Its Title

The Leisure Suit Larry games didn’t do well. The best these adult-focused games have ever achieved in terms of reception was a small but dedicated fan base, but even that is partially imbued with wry appreciation. Even by Leisure Suit Larry’s standards, Box Office Bust was unsuccessful.

With a 17 on Metacritic, Box Office Bust was voted the worst Leisure Suit Larry title yet. Reviews ruined the uninspired gameplay and sense of humor. Although critics gave Box Office Bust double-digit scores (the highest being 40 out of 100), the highest user score was 4 out of 100.

3 Yaris Is Little More Than An Interactive Toyota Commercial

Licensed games that prioritize product placement over gameplay are nothing new. That being said, Yaris stands out as one of the worst games of its kind. Not only is it a blatant vanity project for the Toyota Yaris, but it also only scored 17 on Metacritic.

Toyota’s shameless publicity aside, Yaris has been slammed in reviews for its unimaginative levels and very unresponsive controls. The best thing that could be said about Yaris was that it was free on Xbox Live Arcade, although many still felt ripped off even if they didn’t pay for the game.

2 Ride To Hell: Retribution Had Poor Graphics

A lot has been said about Ride To Hell: Retribution being one of the worst games. With a Metacritic score of 16, it’s hard to disagree. Ride To Hell didn’t pull off the things it set out to do, whether it was an action-packed grindhouse experience or a well-functioning game.

Critics and users commented on Ride To Hell’s terrible controls, poor graphics and immaturity. The two perfect user reviews weren’t even meant to be taken seriously. The console versions of Ride To Hell scored three points higher than the PC version, which is Metacritic’s second-worst game.

1 Family Party: 30 Great Games Obstacle Arcade Was Almost Unplayable

Like its predecessor, the Wii, the Wii U was intended for party games. Ideally, this would mean that the exclusive party games are accessible and fun for people of all ages. The Wii U-exclusive Family Party: 30 Great Games Obstacle Arcade promised that in both its title and advertising, only for the opposite.

With just 11 points, Family Party was criticized for prioritizing quantity over quality and its uninspired mini-games. Almost every review implied that making Family Party for kids was pointless because it was almost unplayable, while its three perfect scores came from sarcastic testimonials or insincere creeping praise.
