It was four days before the Major League Baseball trade deadline and Friday night the big piece fell as the Reds sent righty Luis Castillo to the Mariners for four prospects. The trade could rid Seattle of wunderkind prospect Juan Soto, whose trade has reportedly fallen short to four teams. With that in mind, here are the rumors for Saturday’s trade deadline.

Padres in talks for Contreras; open to moving youngsters for Soto

The Padres, one of the top rumors for national shortstop Juan Soto, are willing to discuss center fielder C.J. Abrams, Robert Hassell III, and Adrian Morejon, left, according to Jon Morosi. See the article : The NFL’s mission: Reach as many fans as possible. It is known that the people of the country are looking for a combination of players and young players. It’s unclear if the Padres’ package will clear the threshold because Abrams has struggled in the majors and Morejon is recovering from elbow surgery.

The Padres are also in talks with the Cubs about catching Willson Contreras, ESPN reports. Contreras will be a free agent after the season and is certain to be traded before the trade deadline. San Diego catchers are hitting .258/.311/.366 this season, which is better than their .225/.294/.364 average, though Contreras would be a big upgrade.

Going into Saturday the Padres have a 2.5-game lead for the wild-card spot, though they have lost 21 of their last 36 games, and their offense has really struggled at times. The Padres could use offensive help in several areas, especially the outfield. The bullpen could use a boost as Taylor Rogers was recently removed from the closer position.

Phillies get Sosa from Cardinals

The Phillies acquired center fielder Edmundo Sosa from the Cardinals for lefty prospect JoJo Romero, the team announced Saturday. Sosa finished last season as the Cardinals’ starting shortstop, though he fell into a utility role this year and struggled. St. Louis is deep in players, so they contacted Sosa for an interesting piece.

As for Philadelphia, their shortstop and second base have left a lot to be desired this year, although Jean Segura is expected to return from his broken thumb next week. Blue Jays interested in Fulmer

The Blue Jays are among the teams interested in Tigers righty Michael Fulmer, MLB.com reports. Fulmer threw a scoreless eighth inning in Toronto on Friday. See the article : When could Invincible season 2 be released on Amazon Prime Video?. The Tigers have plenty of relievers to play in the tight end — Andrew Chafin and All-Star Gregory Soto are among them — though Fulmer is an incoming free agent, so there’s urgency to move him.

Pitching is a top priority for a Blue Jays team that has been on a hot tear the past few weeks. Fulmer has turned into a hitter who misses bats, though he also runs into walk trouble. It’s the kind of rental reliever that moves at the end of every year and is an upgrade for any bullpen candidate.

Montas now Yankees’ No. 1 target

With Castillo off the board, shortstop Frankie Montas is now the Yankees’ No. 1 target, USA Today reported. Everything has to go in Oakland and Montas is the team’s biggest trade piece. The right-hander missed two starts with a minor shoulder issue earlier this month, but was strong in his first two starts back, and has been at a high level for several years now.

New York is looking to improve the rotation and will certainly win the battle to acquire Montas. Several other candidates need rotation help and Montas is appealing because he will remain under the club’s control next season as a player worth dealing with. He’s not a rental, and as the Castillo trade shows, the cost of running two postseason games for an impact player is high.

Rays bring in Peralta

The Athletics discussed outfielder Ramón Laureano, according to the New York Post. Laureano is one of the A’s top trade chips and will be under the club’s control until 2025, so it’s a long-term addition. Center field has been a weakness for the Brewers all season and Laureano represents an upgrade over the Jonathan Davis/Tyrone Taylor unit.
