HIPHOPDX – When someone with as great an influence as Beyoncé falls, the rest of the music industry typically takes a back seat and watches. This is mainly the case with this week’s edition of New Music Friday, which is led by Queen Bey’s latest, Renaissance.
Beyoncé – Renaissance
The Houston-born singer’s seventh studio album certainly cast a long shadow over the rest of the week‘s releases, but after streaming Renaissance, be sure to read on for more essential listening.
Prior to the release of her seventh studio album Renaissance, Beyoncé posted a message; this project would be dedicated to JAY-Z, his uncle Jonny and the LGBTQ + community. The album was framed as an escape from a seemingly never-ending pandemic, regressive politics and unease in the world. Maxo Kream – Weight of the World (Deluxe)
With 16 tracks, Bey’s most recent work is eclectic and large in scale. It requires the help of Drake, 070 Shake, Grace Jones, Tems and others, not to mention superstar producers ranging from The-Dream, Mike Dean and The Neptunes. Lemonade’s introspective and intimate ballads have given way to something more lively, a dance-fueled album that draws on the sounds of House, Afrobeats, Pop and more.

Weight of the World originally debuted in 2021, where it was considered the best Houston MC album, driven largely by songs like “Greener Knots”, “Big Persona” with Tyler, The Creator and “Local Joker”.
Wiz Khalifa – Multiverse
Instead of moving on to something else, the spit of “Roaches” breathed new life into the project, unveiling the deluxe edition of the album. Among the updated tracklists are the excellent “Football Heads” with Benny The Butcher, “The Vision” with Anderson .Paak and “Mixin Juices” assisted by Babyface Ray.
Pittsburgh’s Wiz Khalifa has consistently been publishing music for nearly two decades. Although his general M.O. Not much has changed since his 2006 debut studio album Show And Prove, the captain of the Taylor Gang has been honing his skills more and more with each passing year.
Doe Boy – Catch Me If You Can

Doe Boy already has an album on Oh Really to his credit in 2022, a follow-up to the acclaimed Demons R Us with 808 Mafia Boss Southside, but he’s clearly not happy. The hard trap spitter just released Catch Me If You Can, a 9-song album with a single feature from Chicago pioneer Drill G Herbo.
Hotboii – Blinded By Death
Doe Boy raps with a sharp bite, which comes to life in Catch Me If You Can thanks to the excellent production of the likes of JetsonMade, Juicy J, Danny Wolf, Nick Mira, Forever Rolling and others.
In recent years, Florida rap has grown into a robust scene. There have always been MCs who hailed from the Sunshine State: artists like Kodak Black, XXXTENTACION and Rick Ross, but the rise of a new type of trap has brought rappers like Foolio, Yungeen Ace and Hotboii to light. Hotboii’s rowdy bars started spreading across state lines in 2020 with Kut Da Fan On, but it was 2021’s Life Of A Hotboii and songs like “I Really” with 42 Dugg and Moneybagg Yo, as well as “Nobody Special “with Future, which has consolidated its potential.
K Camp – Vibe Forever
Blinded By Death, Hotboii’s fourth official release, further elevates its status as a leader in the new Florida school. Featured in the project are Kodak Black, Big30 and two lines by Lil Uzi Vert.
Similar to Florida, Wisconsin rap has begun to show signs of life, suggesting the possibility of an expansion into the Hip Hop mainstream. Among the artists leading the charge is K Camp, a melodic rapper whose style is sometimes more reminiscent of R&B. Although K Camp has been around since the early 2010s, its more recent releases suggest the 32-year-old artist is ready for a larger look.

CEO Trayle – Vier
Vibe Forever marries the solar hooks featured in songs like last year’s Float “Game Ain’t Free”, with the rougher sounds of 2014’s Only Way Is Up. A great option for late summer listening, Vibe Forever is one of the best of the week.
CEO Trayle has only been releasing music since 2017, but has already amassed ten full albums and a small handful of EPs. Given his prolific production and raw talent, it was only a matter of time before one of his singles took off. As so many stories start in our current era, Trayle’s “Ok Cool” took off on TikTok before getting a Gunna-assisted remix from his 2021 Happy Halloween C4 album.
iayze – Demons 2
Trayle’s latest is the Vier, a pint-sized offering that includes just four songs and includes a feature in 1017 Records’ sleeper rapper, Enchanting.
Fort Worth, Texas rapper iayze first caught fire with “556 (Green Tip),” a deceptively menacing song in which burgeoning MC spitting KA $ HDAMI argues over a playful KeleWya beat. Its post-SoundCloud aesthetic fuses the sounds of rabid music with a stylized plugg influence.
Demons 2, the young MC’s latest offering, sticks to the project: confused, electric rap fused with nebulous production.
