Inflation is forcing more and more North Texas people to seek help from food banks to feed their families.
Juani Lara, 45, is one of the hundreds who lined up early Friday to pick up free food baskets at the North Texas Food Bank car party on the University of North Texas in Dallas campus.
Lara said that while gas prices are falling, rising prices for essential food items make it weak.
“We fight because you can easily spend $ 150 on just a few things, not everything you need,” said Lara, who returned to the food distribution event for the first time in a year.

Eronia King, coordinator of the UNT-Dallas event, said £ 12,000 of food was distributed on Friday, enough to feed up to 400 families.
“We definitely saw how many people we saw, and we had to reject some families because we had run out of food by then,” she said.
The items that the food bank was handing out on Friday included pasta, vegetables, fruit, eggs and chicken. At 9:44 the eggs were finished.
North Texas Food Bank will have mobile food pantries every third Friday of the month at the location listed on the website. Food distribution starts at 8am in August and at 9am from September.
