The Jackson County Health Department’s retail food establishment inspections for May 2022 were recently released.

Critical offenses are defined as a provision of the Sanitary Requirements of Retail Food Establishments, Title 410 of IAC 7-24, which, if non-compliant, is more likely than other offenses to contribute significantly to food contamination, illness or risk to environmental health . Example: Hot food is not kept at 135˚F or warmer, cold food not at 41˚F or below or contaminated food contact surfaces.

Non-critical offenses are provisions of the Retail Food Establishments Sanitary Requirements, Title 410 of IAC 7-24, which, if non-compliant, are not likely to contribute significantly to food contamination, illness or environmental health hazards but which n issues of concern. Examples: No hair restraints or a mop left in a mop bucket rather than let it air dry.

Regular breaches are announced when a subsequent inspection finds that a previous issue has not been rectified and the organization continues to be non-compliant and presents a risk.
