HEM Crew and Barrio Art Crawl
Visual Art, In a new Music Exhibition, “Making Echoes with Lines,” HEM Crew (Made in Mexico) will place graffiti on the walls of the Athenaeum Art Center, in the Bread and Salt set. HEM Crew is Israel Elizondo “Shente” and Nestor “Spel” Mondragon. The cross-border couple has been creating graffiti works in the region since 1989.

To kick off the exhibition, there will be a live graffiti painting event at the opening reception as part of the Barrio Art Crawl on Saturday at 5 p.m. The exhibition will be on view until August 20, 2022.
They will also open on Saturday at Bread and Salt: Melanie Taylor’s solo exhibition, “Terrain,” featuring works from the main hall, paper and paintings. Taylor’s atmospheric and suggestive works are anchored in natural spaces, filled with the movement and urgency of tree and plant life.
In Best Practice (also available in Bread and Salt), Nathaniel Klein and Brody Albert will open an exhibition of “A, B, C, D,” an exhibition of works, videos, and more from found objects.
Elsewhere in the Barrio Logan: “Viva la Vida: A Frida Kahlo Art Exhibition” showcases the work of 50 local artists celebrating Frida Kahlo’s birthday at Corazon del Barrio (formerly La Bodega Gallery, now a theater site) which works). With music performances by Betty Bangs and others, with vendors like food, drinks and Por La Mano Press.
