There are many video games whose artistic style is based on imitating life. It’s great in its own right but when the game takes it a step further that’s when the game really starts to stand out. There is a plethora of games that aim to look like something that no one has experienced. They are some of the games that unlock parts of our imagination that players never knew existed.

10/10 Loop Hero
Loop Hero has CRT pixel art that makes it even more fun to look at. The way the game allows players to build their own maps adds a level of artistic value to the placement of the area. On the same subject : NBC Sports Washington premieres Off the Ice: Best of Capitals 2021-22. The map the player ends up with is a large organic piece.
It’s fun to watch the available environment grow into a lush lake, mountain, or city. The animation though looks like it’s part of the NES itself which is stunning.
9/10 Limbo
Limbo has received praise from many as a game that not only represents itself as a video game but also as an art form. Many people have compared this game to film noir and the gloomy aesthetic really makes this pop. The game has a minimalist shadow-like background and characters.

8/10 Borderlands
The art direction from Borderlands may look cel-shaded but that’s not the case. The style replicates that of the comic book and that’s why it’s stylistically unique. Everything from the design of the terrain around the player to the different types of enemies makes for some glorious eye candy.
Yes, some lands may be barren but the comic book art style makes players want to explore new areas and see if they are pleasing to the eye.
7/10 Okami
Okami has a unique art style that wraps itself in color to create stunning visuals. Everything in this game is made to pay homage to the Japanese ink wash painting art style. All down to the main character’s movements are stylized.
Running around will cause beautiful trees to grow from the footsteps of our main character, this adds to the already beautiful area the player travels through. The fights in the game are also artistically sound and include the use of brushes as attacks.
6/10 Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Sunshine set a tropical island theme and stuck to it. The visuals are fun and full of color and everything looks like it will burst through the player’s screen. The game revolving around cleaning up the paint makes it before and after the product cleaning up the level captures the attention of the players.
Everything about each area is comforting to be a part of. The art style of this game is smoother than other titles but that’s what makes it one of the best artistic settings.
5/10 Dark Souls
Dark Souls has some of the best designs in gaming in terms of the cohesion that its areas create. The medieval romantic art style that permeates the game adds to the melancholic tone that the player’s adventure brings. Not only are the graphics good.
The graphics are good but the artistic choices in the atmosphere of each location create something undeniably on par with renaissance pieces. Anyone who has jumped into this difficult world can tell others that it’s not just the game’s challenges that grab them but the atmosphere as well.
4/10 FEZ
FEZ has a Futurism style accompanied by a distinctive crossover between 2D and 3D graphics. Each area feels like a moving piece of art that gets the player’s attention. The game is meant to be played slowly and methodically. There is no pressure or rush in his experience and that allows the players to enjoy his artistic subtleties.
This is one of the most beautiful games in the 8-bit genre. Seeing something that was originally supposed to be 2D make the switch to 3D and then back to 2D in an instant is something special.
3/10 Cult Of The Lamb
In an interview with Gamerant, the art director, James Pierman, said, “The art style in Cult of the Lamb is still unapologetically cartoonish,” and this describes the game well. The game is a combination of horrible pictures mixed with cute cuddly creatures. Even the most difficult and terrifying bosses have a funny side to them.
It leaves players confused as to whether they want to embrace or run away from them. It is this unique aspect that makes the style so fitting.
2/10 Psychonauts 2
Psychonauts 2 thrives on surrealism. The great thing about this is the levels that can be created because of this. Everything feels like it belongs to itself as no two areas look the same. The color palette is constantly changing to create a different emotional feel.
Whatever character the player feels is what the texture and theme of the area gives it. Overall, Psychonauts 2 is one of the most unique concepts of the bunch.
1/10 Cuphead
Cuphead’s art style can be appreciated by anyone who understands his hard work. It has a gorgeous rubber hose style. The rubber hose style is a 1930s cartoon aesthetic placed within the artistic atmosphere of the game.
What makes all this stand out is the fact that the game has a water background. On top of that, all game frames are hand drawn and then inked to put into the game later on.

Is Hollow Knight actually fun?
Hollow Knight is a beautifully hand-drawn metroidvania that’s equal parts challenging, funny, and scary. All of the 100-plus characters are animated to be adorable and/or scary, and the different areas of the humongous map each have their own art style and some of the best use of parallax I’ve ever seen.
Is Hollow Knight worth playing on Reddit? This game is beautifully put together, the art and music are amazing and the port is really well done.
