September 8 (Reuters) – The New Zealand government will invest NZ$20 million ($12 million) in winter sports funding for the 2026 Olympics and Paralympics in Milan, following its most successful Games in Beijing.
The investment includes an additional NZ$1.6 million per year over the four-year Olympic cycle to government entity Snow Sports New Zealand, a more than 60% increase in funding levels for Beijing.
Snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott and freestyle skier Nico Porteous won the country’s first winter Olympic gold medals in China with their victories in the women’s slopestyle and men’s halfpipe.

“New Zealand’s unprecedented success at the Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics earlier this year reflects the amount of young talent emerging in winter sports,” New Zealand Sports Minister Grant Robertson said in a statement. this Thursday.
