Summer is one of the best times of the year to pick up video games. School is useless and the heat is unbearable to combine for lazy days spent trying to cool off and stay.
Yes, it’s nice to soak up the sun when you can, but we all need some change in our lives, don’t we? With so many video games out there, fans are spoiled for choice on what to play in 2022.
However, there are some video games that feel just right to play during the long summer months. Whether based on gameplay, setting, or vibes alone, here are the 14 best video games to play this summer, as chosen by staff writer Mary Clarke and GLHF reporter Kyle Campbell.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Mary: Breath of the Wild’s beautiful scenery and landscape make for a great summer vacation. Plus, the game is designed for you to explore at your own pace as you find your own adventures and have your own fun as Link in this latest Legend of Zelda romp.
Resident Evil (2002)
Kyle: Look, maybe Resident Evil isn’t about getting sunburned but consider this: it takes place in the summer. I also spent many afternoons as a child solving puzzles in Spencer House while everyone else was melting outside. Heat? No thanks – give me the shade. Thankfully, there are plenty of them in a crumbling building at night full of zombies!
Stardew Valley
Mary: I usually go to Stardew Valley in the summer, more so than other seasons. The perfect garden – and vacation! – simulator is perfect for long summer nights as you carefully plan and improve the design of your garden to your heart’s content. Super Mario Sunshine
Kyle: Imagine you’re excited about a beautiful island paradise, only to have goombas squash you. Super Mario Sunshine isn’t everyone’s favorite adventure with the famous Italian plumber, but it’s pretty cool. This may interest you : Which video games offer roulette as a sideline?. Nothing says summertime like blasting everything and everyone with a water gun attached to the back.
Final Fantasy X
Mary: The tropical ocean paradise of Spira is the setting for Tidus’ adventures in one of the best Final Fantasy games of all time. The world is beautiful, the story is interesting, and the cast of characters you meet during this journey are some of the most memorable in video games. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Kyle: There is no more competitive game to watch than Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. In fact, search for “Doctor Doom combos” on YouTube, and you’ll find it. Most of those highlights will come from the Evo Championship Series, which takes place every summer in Las Vegas. Therefore, this is important! Bad qualifications aside, many die-hard fans enjoyed this series because of those big games in the middle of the summer. Also, getting together with friends who beat each other up is a hell of a bonding experience.
A Short Hike
Mary: A Short Link is the perfect warm-up game for those who love camping and the outdoors. Although it’s not a long track by any means, A Short Hike is a beautiful warm-weather cleanser that dials up the warm vibes to 11.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Kyle: Who among us hasn’t gotten together in the summer with friends to throw blue shells at each other? You probably have memories of throwing that exact birthday party in the middle of childhood – and so do two or three generations of adults now. Maybe this is a hot topic, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is better than any other release in the series.
Spider-Man
Mary: While Spider-Man may take place in the fall, I find it to be a classic summer game. Having the freedom to cross New York City at high speed while soaring over buildings is a feeling like no other. To me, Spider-Man fits all the right notes for a summer vacation, right down to the blockbuster Marvel superhero plot!
Splatoon 2
Kyle: The equivalent is a tie shirt. Whether it’s the little Inklings sporting shorts and flip flops or sounding like food prices to match, Splatoon 2 feels like a busy day at summer camp. Sure, the website is bad, but whatever! What does it matter that you can shoot fish with guns full of paint because, in the end, isn’t that what we all want to do?
Nintendo Switch Sports
Mary: Don’t you want to go out in the heat? With Nintendo Switch Sports, you don’t have to! Get all the heart-pumping adrenaline you need to play sports like soccer, tennis, volleyball, bowling, and more from the comfort of your living room without breaking the bank. the heat in the process.
Power Wash Simulator
Kyle: Looking for a serotonin rush? Nothing beats Power Wash Simulator. There’s something incredibly satisfying about dusting off the dirt and dusting off the old family van, only to have it look brand new later as it shines in the sun.
Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag
Mary: Nothing says summer to me like pirates! And there is no better pirate video game out on the market than Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, which puts you in the shoes of pirate Edward Kenway and his murderous attacks. The cities you pass through in the Caribbean are all vibrant and lush, and the ship’s combat is second-to-none as you carve your legacy in the Golden Age of Piracy.
Golf With Your Friends
Kyle: Mini putt is a fun summer pastime. Golf With Your Friends takes the big picture and turns everything up to 11. It’s almost like a rollercoaster—one that (playfully) gets you enemies.
