WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 (Prensa Latina) 54% of respondents in a poll released Monday strongly believe the United States will be less democratic within a generation, while 64% predict an increase in political violence.
According to a recent CBS News-YouGov poll, eight in 10 Americans believe the northern country’s political politeness has deteriorated in recent years, and only 7% of Americans saw improvements in this aspect.
Most Americans (86%) said using force to achieve goals relative to power is always unacceptable; However, 14% believe it can be allowed if necessary.
Other results showed that only 19% of Americans said the United States would become much more democratic, and 12 out of 100 said they saw no change in civility.
According to The Hill newspaper, the nation’s political violence has increased recently, primarily after Jan. 6, 2021, when hundreds of people stormed the Capitol to challenge President Joe Biden’s then-election victory.
Threats on sensitive national issues have become commonplace, the report added.
An example of the impact was the arrest of a gunman outside Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s residence days before the Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to an abortion, a June 24 decision.
Intimidation against law enforcement also increased after the FBI searched former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago, Florida residence on August 8 on suspicion of violating the Espionage Act and committing other crimes.
Trump, however, claimed the FBI’s search was politically motivated, and during a campaign event last Saturday in Pennsylvania, he called President Joe Biden an “enemy of the state” and described the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) as “malicious monsters.”
In this context, Biden is shaping the upcoming midterm elections on November 8th as a referendum on democracy.
