Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season did not disappoint. Between the tie (which meant no AFC South team won, even though two of them played each other), the missed overtime kicks and the season-opening win by the Bills bets, there was plenty for fans to keep up with. the weekend continued.

And after Thursday night’s thriller between two AFC West contenders, Week 2 looks set to be no different.

So go ahead, football fans, settle down for another Sunday on the sofa – we’ve got a packed afternoon of games and SI will be here all day with live analysis and updates to take you through all the action week 2

1 p.m. window

(2:55): And an ugly game suddenly became quite interesting. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones orchestrated an eight-play, 75-yard drive and connected with rookie tight end Daniel Bellinger for the touchdown to tie the score at 13-13. It’s a crucial year for Jones, who is trying to work out a new deal with coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen.

(2:45): In the ugliest game of the day, Baker Mayfield and the Panthers finally built a 13-6 lead against the Giants. On play action, Mayfield rolled to his right and found a D.J. Moore for the touchdown. The drive was classic Baker, who is at his best when he’s running, and he also had a 17-yard scramble for the score.

(2:18): Nice job by Mike LaFleur planning some confusion in the Browns secondary. Quietly, the Jets are tied at the half. Earlier this week, head coach Robert Saleh had a bit of a response to the media, noting that he was taking receipts from everyone who trash-talked the Jets. It was the first time the typically stoic coach decided to wade into the choppy waters of the New York media. The result, it seems, is a motivated squad (at least half of them) that feels their coach is rooting for them.

(1:17): I’m not sure what’s going to happen in this Jets game, but on Monday we should all rewind to 8 minutes into the first quarter and see what a perfect offense looks like in impossible conditions. The Jets were totally duped on a Browns punt call (that Nick Chubb should have called), but D.J. Reed covered a heap of ground and wrapped the powerful back around the ankles. Cleveland drives, but some of Robert Saleh’s guys hang on.

(2:19) Wow! That’s the only way to describe the Patriots’ Mac Jones touchdown pass to Nelson Agholar, who ran up the ladder to throw the 44-yarder to give the Patriots a 10-3 lead. The Patriots are trying to avoid what could be the first 0-2 start under Belichick since 2001.

(1:20): The Patriots settle for a field goal as we see more small moments of life that isn’t Tom Brady. A third-and-8 becomes a third-and-13 after a delay of game penalty. The work before? A perfectly legal setup to the left for Mac Jones, who throws it well past his receiver instead of over his back shoulder, putting the ball in serious danger.

(2:18): Lamar Jackson is having a rough day and no one should be surprised. Jackson hit Mark Andrews with a 25-yard laser to give the Ravens a first down at the Dolphins’ 1-yard line. And the QB ran it right back to Andrews for the touchdown and a 21-7 Ravens lead. Jackson is now 8-for-9 for 154 yards and two touchdowns. He also has 33 yards rushing on five attempts.

(1:57): The Ravens should have had a 14-0 lead before going on fourth down inside the 5-yard line to give the ball to the Dolphins, who capitalized and went 94 yards to mark But the Ravens responded quickly in Miami, with Lamar Jackson throwing a perfect slant pass to Rashad Bateman for a 75-yard touchdown. This matchup has had plenty of fireworks and we’re only five minutes into the second quarter.

(1:52): I think we all underestimated the power of someone like Tyreek Hill in the hands of Mike McDaniels. Yes, Jaylen Waddle just scored a touchdown, but after Hill he completely turned the defense in the opposite direction. McDaniel comes from San Francisco, where they explained the idea that elite speed is the only thing defenses consistently respect. Hill provides that wrinkle to their offense.

(1:41): Game-altering moment in Baltimore when a touchdown was disallowed, then Lamar Jackson ran into a fourth and quarterback. The Ravens seem to have made a concerted effort to keep Jackson out of harm’s way this season: They used Mark Andrews on a QB sneak before the drive; however, instead of a typical kick-action Ravens goal line play that allowed Jackson to break free, they opted to send him to the gut and paid for it.

(2:28): Aidan Hutchinson wasn’t the first pick in the draft, but he’s certainly playing like it today against the Commanders. The former Wolverine has been unstoppable in the first half with three of Detroit’s four sacks and six total tackles. The Lions held the Commanders to less than 100 total yards in the first half.

(1:39): In a matchup of the top two quarterbacks in the 2016 draft, Jared Goff and Carson Wentz, it’s Goff with an early lead. The former Ram is 5-for-10 for 84 yards, including a terrific throw to Amon-Ra St. Brown to give the Lions an 11-0 lead. The odd 12-0 score is the result of Carson Wentz leaving the Commanders end zone after being sacked.

(1:33): Something Albert Breer touched on in his mailbag last week: “Having talked to coaches and scouts who worked against Trevor Lawrence last year, there was at least one very concern real that he would have, and that’s the feeling. that he might not see the field as quickly or as well as we all would have hoped. That concern would be compounded by the relatively simple Clemson offense he comes from (the learning curve was pronounced enough for Deshaun Watson that Bill O’Brien adapted his offense to him.) Well, Lawrence definitely saw the field better in his opening series against the Colts: He was a perfect 7-for-7 for 55 yards and the touchdown to Kirk.

(1:29): All Christian Kirk has done is live up to this colossal contract (four years, $72 million) that we all laughed at in the offseason (and it wasn’t that colossal to begin with). In discussions with people in Arizona this offseason, there was a real sense that they would miss his professionalism in the room. Kirk was also a master at clearing difficult and contested catches. Jaguars are rolling here.

(1:15 p.m.): The Colts had a good opening game against the Jaguars, but then Matt Ryan was intercepted. Ryan throwing interceptions at the wrong time won’t sit well with Indianapolis, which got used to too many of those under former QB Carson Wentz.

(1:22): Tom Brady is 0-4 in the regular season against the Saints since signing with the Buccaneers. And things aren’t going much better for Brady and Co. in today’s matchup at the Superdome: The Saints marched down the field in their opener to take a 3-0 lead, and Brady had the Buccaneers in the Saints 30 yards. line before moving the button from the center. However, Brady does have a playoff win against the Saints, which propelled Tampa to a Super Bowl title a couple of years ago.

Patriots at Steelers (1 p.m.): I can’t imagine Bill Belichick has ever circled a game in the first month of the calendar and called it a “winner.” That said, there were serious breakdowns in the Patriots’ protection scheme last week against the Dolphins. —Conor Orr

Buccaneers at Saints (1 p.m.): The Saints have won seven of eight against their NFC South rivals and are 4-1 in the series since Tom Brady arrived in Tampa Bay two years ago. And the Saints came alive late against the Falcons last week. … So this will be a good litmus test to see if the Buccaneers, who took out a Cowboys team right from the bat, are what they’ve been the past two years. —Albert Breer

Dolphins at Ravens (1 p.m.): Lamar Jackson wasn’t forced to struggle much last week against the Jets, a team that played surprisingly well against the Ravens’ signature offense. … They won’t have a similar luxury against a more complete Dolphins defense this Sunday, which despite not having an overwhelming number of passes, took advantage of free rushers when they looked to create them. – CO.

Cardinals at Raiders (4:25 p.m.) – This one will either affirm what we saw in these teams’ losses last week (Cardinals were pummeled by the Chiefs; Raiders acquitted themselves in a nail-biter with the Chargers) or it will simply increase. more questions about the situation of each team. —A.B.

Bengals at Cowboys (4:25 p.m.): This is a prelude to utter confusion in Dallas. I’d be willing to bet quite a bit on the Cowboys falling to 0–2 and the Bengals winning by multiple points. Mike McCarthy’s teams without Dak Prescott have been a bit of a loser, grudgingly winning games to save face in garbage time. – CO.
