ATLANTA – Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TMRW Sports today announced TGL, a new technology-infused golf league in partnership with the PGA TOUR. TGL will feature team matches that combine advanced technology and live action in a custom-built venue on Monday night slots to complement the current PGA TOUR schedule. Woods and McIlroy are the first two golfers to partner, and the league’s inaugural season will begin in January 2024. The announcement was made today by Woods, McIlroy and TMRW Sports CEO and Founder Mike McCarley.

TGL, the golf league of TMRW Sports, will feature:

• Teams: Six teams of three PGA TOUR players;• Tech-Infused Venue: A first-of-its-kind golf experience powered by a data-rich virtual course, along with a technology-infused short game complex;• Tech-Infused Fan Experience: A fan experience with high energy on the green with every live shot of the 2-hour prime-time televised match; • Season: 15 regular season games on Monday nights followed by semi-finals and finals starting in January 2024

Woods said: “TGL is the next evolution in professional golf and I am committed to helping lead it into the future. Embracing technology to create this unique environment gives us the ability to consistently move our sport into a prime time slot alongside many of the biggest sporting events. I’m a big sports fan myself and I’m excited about mixing golf with the technology and team elements that are common in other sports. We all know what it’s like to be in a football stadium or a basketball arena where you can watch every play, every minute of the action unfold right in front of you. This is something that is not inherently possible in traditional golf – and an aspect of TGL that will set it apart and attract a new generation of fans.”

McIlroy said: “I have great respect for the game of golf and TGL, while rooted in the tradition of the game, is taking a bold step into the sport’s increasingly technology-enabled future. TGL will capitalize on the appeal of team golf in an exciting, fan-friendly environment comparable to sitting courtside at an NBA game. TGL will increase golf’s appeal to a younger and more diverse fanbase and serve as another avenue for me to introduce people to the game I love.” PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan said, “The TOUR has been committed to aligning our athletes with innovative technology, and this initiative combines that vision with the unique atmosphere of golf. The main event experience with PGA TOUR players will help bring our sport and the world’s greatest players to a wider audience.”
