If Aaron Rodgers is going for a three-peat as NFL MVP, he should come out with one of the most unproven wide receiver teams.
The Packers in March surprisingly traded for Davante Adams, who has been statistically the best receiver in the league over the past two seasons. Green Bay has since been unable to add anyone even close to Adams’ talent level, opting instead to select two receivers in their first five draft picks and sign veteran Sammy Watkins.
During the Hall of Fame Game between the Raiders and the Jaguars on Thursday, NBC announcer Cris Collinsworth revealed that Adams told him that Rodgers’ uncertain future played into his desire to go to the Raiders in Las Vegas.

After hearing that, Colin Cowherd blamed Rodgers for the Packers’ receiving situation.
“Sometimes, people will say ‘stop picking on this guy,’ or, ‘you never stop talking about this guy,'” Cowherd said Friday on “Animals.” “…But I’m going to be someone who talks a lot about Aaron Rodgers, because I think that as long as he’s a back-to-back MVP, he’s getting single, rich, big, and amazing.”
Cowherd accused Rodgers of not knowing how people would respond to his actions, such as lying about his vaccination status, and why it might alienate people.
“When you get really rich, and you get married, and you don’t have anyone to answer to, everything becomes unbalanced and selfish,” Cowherd said. “We’re all kind of imagining Aaron Rodgers, what does that tattoo mean? What do these subtle signs of retirement mean? I don’t think Aaron understands. I know Aaron likes to be the smartest guy in the room, but don’t tell me. I think he understands the power of his words.
“Remember when he talked about and refused shots? He was shocked by the backlash. You’re Aaron Rodgers.”
Rodgers has made headlines for things he’s said and done on the field over the past year. After sharing his anti-vax stance, Rodgers gave an interview to ESPN a few days before the Packers’ loss to the 49ers, in which he discussed President Joe Biden among other things.
This offseason, Rodgers got his first tattoo, which was filled with various astrological designs. He revealed on the Aubrey Marcus Podcast on Wednesday that he took the antipsychotic drug ayahuasca before the 2020 season, which he claimed helped improve his love.

More on the field, Rodgers said Thursday that he doesn’t plan to play until he’s 45, like Tom Brady. He also shared in June that he was thinking about retirement “all the time.”
Cowherd said that when Rodgers goes into a “zen phase,” he becomes more open, telling him that “sometimes you have to keep everything to yourself.”
“When you’re in the moment and living in the moment, me and I have to take a back seat to us and us,” Cowherd said. “A lot of his comments here are, ‘I got a tattoo, this is what it means to me.’ “I took psychedelic drugs because it changed my life.’ Power, influence and words are important.”
Cowherd said the Packers share some of the blame, though, for the situation created by Rodgers and the lack of talent in the receiving room.
“Green Bay is lucky to have him,” Cowherd said. They don’t have an owner. [Matt] LaFleur is lucky to have him. I still don’t know if Matt is a great coach. He was lucky enough to have Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback. Everyone knows it. When the Packers beat Jordan Love with the pick, it increased Aaron’s power and potential. “

Aaron Rodgers wasn’t the only member of the Packers organization to get a big payday. Green Bay also hired general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur. However, Cowherd still points the finger at Rodgers about the Packers’ receiving situation and how it could be the ultimate downfall of his team.
“Sometimes, absorb it,” Cowherd said. Take one for the team. Stop talking, especially about retirement, because the Packers arguably have the weakest core in the league. You can’t win the 2022 Super Bowl with the worst weapons in the league.”
