Here’s a look at the Green Bay Packers’ potential 53-man roster after some huge roster moves on Sunday and ahead of a massive week against the New Orleans Saints.

Note: This third showing of the roster was released before Sunday’s rehearsal where Elgton Jenkins, Robert Tonyan and Christian Watson were activated from the PUP roster. Hence, this has been updated to reflect the big news of the day.

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin – The biggest week of training camp is here for the Green Bay Packers.

In the wake of the preseason defeat in San Francisco on Friday night, the Packers will welcome the New Orleans Saints for joint training on Tuesday and Wednesday before hosting them in a preseason game on Friday night.

“They are all great [for evaluation purposes], but they definitely go up against a team that we have a lot of respect for,” said manager Matt LaFleur. “They did pretty well last year and this is a talented roster so it will be a great test to see where we are.”

While all of this is happening, the Packers must reduce their roster to 85 players by 3pm. Tuesday.

The Packers kept almost all of their best players out for the San Francisco game. With the high intensity workouts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, that will be the plan again this week. That means plenty of snaps on Friday night for players at the bottom of the depth chart to express their case.

Chief Executive Brian Gutekunst is set to reduce the roster to 53 players on Tuesday, Aug.30. Complicating these decisions are the comebacks of the stars David Bakhtiari, Elgton Jenkins and Robert Tonyan. Will they be ready to play in week 1? Not quite ready for week 1 but close enough to do 53? Or will they open the season on the list of physically unable to perform, which means they can start training after week 4?

With so much uncertainty, here’s our third showing of the 53-man roster. For reference, here’s our second screening after Family Night.

Quarterbacks (2)

Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love (USA Today Sports Images) On the same subject : Rising Senior is conducting Summer Research at Harvard Business School.

On 53: Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love.

Analysis: This is going to be a great week for Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love and Danny Etling, with three fights against the Saints. Although Rodgers will play some series in the preseason finale at the Chiefs on August 25, free practice on Tuesday and Wednesday will serve as a set-up for the regular season.

Running Backs (3)

Tyler Goodson against the 49ers (USA Today Sports Images) This may interest you : Morgan Stanley Head of Global Sports And Entertainment Division Sandra L. Richards Says Sports Business.

On 53: Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, Tyler Goodson.

Changes: Tyler Goodson (in), Patrick Taylor (out).

Injury: The wild card could be Kylin Hill. He remains on the list of people physically unable to perform after last year’s knee injury, but his rehab training on the pitch seemed explosive. Being number 3 back, there is really no urgency to get Hill on the pitch, so the guess here is that he stays on PUP.

Analysis: The Packers have given such an award to pass protection, so this would appear to give Patrick Taylor the edge over everyone else in the battle to be the third defender. But Tyler Goodson’s explosiveness continues to stand out. It may not be your pick in third and 1, but its 4.42 speed in 40 could make it a weapon in a specialized role or kickoff returns.

Receivers (7)

Juwann Winfree (USA Today sports images) This may interest you : Lake Creek softball is the USA Today High School Awards Girls Team of the Year.

On 53: Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, Randall Cobb, Amari Rodgers, Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Juwann Winfree.

Injury Concern: Christian Watson was turned off the list of physically unable to perform on Sunday.

Analysis: Sammy Watkins, the team’s only veteran addition, had a quiet retirement but was one of 1.2 million inactive for the preseason game in San Francisco. This would seem to indicate that he landed his spot on the insured 53-man roster. Amari Rodgers played two explosive plays against the 49ers. In the slot, Randall Cobb is the reliable veteran, but Rodgers is where there is an advantage. Juwann Winfree, who made an incredible hold while possibly preventing an interception on Friday, was a number 1 at the punt return and kick-off return. If the Packers keep seven, they’d be short of men somewhere else.

Tight Ends (4)

Josiah Deguara against the 49ers (USA Today Sports Images)

On 53: Robert Tonyan, Marcedes Lewis, Tyler Davis, Josiah Deguara.

Changes: Robert Tonyan (in), Dominique Dafney (out).

Injury Concern: On Sunday Robert Tonyan (ACL) was activated by the PUP.

Analysis: Robert Tonyan was the obvious wildcard here. Barring one setback, it will be in the Week 1 lineup. What does it mean for the rest of the depth chart? Will Tyler Davis be out of work? Maybe not – the Packers really like his advantage – but he didn’t play well against the 49ers. Could Dominique Dafney be the odd man out due to a redundancy of position with Deguara? Or is that position too important? Alize Mack, a Saints’ seventh round pick in 2019 who didn’t play in a regular-season match, blocked well against the Niners.

Offensive Line (9)

David Bakhtiari (sports images from USA Today)

On the 53: LT Yosh Nijman, LG Jon Runyan Jr, C Josh Myers, RG Royce Newman, RT Elgton Jenkins, C / G Jake Hanson, OL Zach Tom, G Sean Rhyan, T / G Cole Van Lanen.

Injury Concern: David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins are coming out of the torn left ACL.

Analysis: When asked earlier in the week if he needed to find a veteran offensive tackle rather than rolling the dice on Royce Newman or Zach Tom, GM Brian Gutekunst said with optimism that David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins would return to the game. start of the season. Sure enough, Jenkins was activated from the PUP list on Sunday. Over the past week, it looked like Jenkins was ahead of Bakhtiari in their comebacks. So Sunday was a big step for Jenkins. If you write Jenkins on the right tackle, who will start from the left guard? Zach Tom got some repetitions in the first team in place of Jon Runyan on Sunday. The center n. 2 is a guaranteed seat. Will it be Hanson or Tom?

Defensive Line (5)

Dean Lowry rides to practice (USA Today Sports Images)

On 53: Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry, Jarran Reed, Devonte Wyatt, TJ Slaton.

Tougher Cuts: With four of the top five inactive for Friday’s preseason opener, Chris Slayton and, in particular, Jack Heflin took advantage of the extended playing time. In addition, round seven rookie Jonathan Ford also showed a lot of promise.

Analysis: Green Bay’s defensive line, weakened for so long behind Kenny Clark and Dean Lowry, is incredibly strong. If your fifth man in the rotation is first-round pick Devonte Wyatt, life is good for position manager Jerry Montgomery. The question is whether the Packers will keep a sixth over 53 or whether that sixth man will be anyone they can place on the training team.

Outside Linebackers (5)

Preston Smith (sports images from USA Today)

On 53: Rashan Gary, Preston Smith, Jonathan Garvin, Tipa Galeai, Kingsley Enagbar.

Changes: La’Darius Hamilton (exits).

Tougher Cuts: Randy Ramsey was a key Special Teams player in 2020 and La’Darius Hamilton had a productive training camp.

Injury Concern: Randy Ramsey missed last season with an ankle injury. He trained periodically, but the Packers kept him out of Family Night and the 49ers game.

Analysis: This is a difficult call. Everyone in the chase behind Rashan Gary and Preston Smith had their moments but not consistently. Jonathan Garvin and Tipa Galeai started against San Francisco and fifth-round rookie Kingsley Enagbar came off the bench to produce a layoff and three pressures. La’Darius Hamilton has made more plays than Enagbar on the training ground, but Enagbar’s draft status is the tipping point here.

Inside Linebackers (4)

Quay Walker (7) and Isaiah McDuffie (USA Today Sports Images)

On 53: De’Vondre Campbell, Quay Walker, Krys Barnes, Isaiah McDuffie.

Analysis: In addition to the defensive tackle, T.J. Slaton, there isn’t a player on the roster who has grown more in the last year than Isaiah McDuffie. He had an excellent training camp, which was reported in the match against the 49ers. He led the team with six tackles, including one for a defeat. With McDuffie and two-year-old owner Krys Barnes, the depth here is really good behind what could be an exceptional starting pair.

Cornerbacks (6)

Keisean Nixon vs. the 49ers (USA Today Sports Images)

On 53: Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, Eric Stokes, Keisean Nixon, Shemar Jean-Charles, Kiondre Thomas.

Changes: Kiondre Thomas (in), Rico Gafford (out).

Analysis: Last week we had Rico Gafford as the sixth corner and Kiondre Thomas as the hardest cut. We will be doing the flip-flop for this week. Gafford was burned for a long touchdown but also had a breakup. Thomas gave up on a two-point game but also had a breakup. Thomas, who played in special teams in four games for the Chargers last season, had two tackles in that stage against the 49ers. Keisean Nixon, who missed the start of the pitch due to injury, put in a good performance against San Francisco.

Safeties (5)

Dallin Leavitt (sports images from USA Today)

On 53: Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage, Vernon Scott, Shawn Davis, Tariq Carpenter.

Change: Tariq Carpenter (in), Dallin Leavitt (out).

Concern about injury: Dallin Leavitt was injured on Friday with a forced tackle. He plans to do 53 for a day, then lands in reserve for injuries.

Analysis: Packers need to feel a lot better about their depth of safety. Vernon Scott and Shawn Davis, neither of whom played a single defensive spurt last season, played well in retirement. On Wednesday, Davis had two interceptions and Scott knocked out Aaron Rodgers to interrupt a two-minute drill.

Dallin Leavitt, a special teams ace with the Raiders under Rich Bisaccia, was a number 1 in all four stages, so we will miss him. Could his pain be Tariq Carpenter’s earning? The Packers chose it for its combination of size and athleticism. He had a very quiet retreat, at one point he fell to the bottom of the depth rankings, but showed some great tackles in the open field against the 49ers. His talent is worth looking after. In this projection, he beat tight end Dominique Dafney and defensive tackle Jonathan Ford for 53rd place.

Specialists (3)

Jack Coco (sports images from USA Today)

On 53: K Mason Crosby, P Pat O’Donnell, LS Jack Coco.

Injury Concern: Mason Crosby is in PUP after off-season knee surgery but has kicked a soccer ball as he begins his climb to the season.

Analysis: The Packers cut Steven Wirtel, leaving Jack Coco as the last man standing at the long snapper. There didn’t seem to be any problems with his shots against the 49ers.
