All eyes were on Netflix this week as the streamer reported its latest quarterly earnings on July 19, after hinting that the numbers would be unusually brutal. As it turned out, the company ended up reporting only a mildly embarrassing loss of nearly 1 million subscribers for the quarter, compared to a much more surprising estimate of 2 million. Netflix even plans to return to growth in the third quarter.

This is something that will only be possible, however, thanks to strong new content.

On a weekly and monthly basis, we always go over all the additions and departures from the Netflix release schedule as thoroughly as possible. Below, we’ll offer a more curated look at five of the biggest, most interesting, and some of the most compelling titles to hit the platform in the coming week.

Virgin River Season 4

The former is a show that has avoided a fate that has befallen many of our favorite Netflix releases over the years. Season 4, yes, season four, of Virgin River is coming to Netflix on July 20. For those who don’t know the story here, this is the Netflix summary. “Looking for a fresh start, nurse Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) moves from Los Angeles to a remote Northern California town and plunges headfirst into a bad case of culture shock. Local bartender and ex-Marine Jack (Martin Henderson) helps her adjust, and he just might win her heart, as she takes on cases and tangles with her irascible new boss (Tim Matheson).”

The Gray Man + more Netflix releases

Meanwhile, another big title that will drive tons of streaming activity in the coming days is The Gray Man. On paper, this new Netflix release that hit the streamer on Friday, July 22 would seem to have all the makings of a blockbuster hit. An A-list cast, sumptuous visuals, a massive budget and a built-in fan base via existing IP – check, check, check, check.

This $200 million Netflix release is actually the streamer’s most expensive original movie. But, at least so far, the money invested hasn’t translated into huge critical acclaim. Revision after revision has made it too fancy and a bit derivative. Not that that matters to fans, though, who have already boosted the film’s audience score to a solid 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

This is one case where critics should definitely not have the last word. The Gray Man is pure escapist fun for anyone who enjoys a spy thriller. Ryan Gosling plays the titular Gray Man, a secret superspy of sorts who is tasked by a CIA chief to take out another sadistic superspy. Great action scenes occur and fight scenes are fun to watch.

One more new Netflix release to check out

Finally, a word about another high-profile Netflix release coming to the streamer this Wednesday (July 27).

In keeping with this year’s jam-packed release of one documentary title after another, the new docuseries The Most Hated Man on the Internet is almost certain to have everyone talking. In short, this 3-episode limited series tells the story of a mother who decided to go after the so-called “King of Revenge Porn”, after nude photos of her daughter surfaced online.

“Hunter Moore was a self-proclaimed ‘professional life-ruiner’ who found fame in the early 2010s by founding IsAnyoneUp.com, a notorious ‘revenge porn’ hub,” Netflix explains. “The site posted explicit photos of women and men, often without their permission and with devastating results.

“He created a cult following of those who hung on to his every cheeky move. Featuring poignant and exclusive interviews with multiple women and men who fought to have his images removed, law enforcement officers who worked on case and the crusaders who fought to take Moore down, this three-part series documents her rise to power at the hands of only one force more fearsome than an army of internet trolls: a mother protecting her daughter.”
