The Perfect Enemy This news of Dead Island 2 made me realize two things: 1) I don’t care about Dead Island 2 anymore, and 2) Zombies have finally started to die out as an indispensable villain in video games. It lasted long enough, they’ve been chunky for over a decade, but I feel they’ve finally gone out of style. Sure, they still make games out of them, but it’s not the epidemic it used to be, where every other game had “Dead” in the name.

It’s obvious why zombies have been popular for so long. Not only have they been riding the wave of general popularity in movies and television, but the only thing video games always need is a human enemy who can be killed by a dozen and not feel bad. They were Nazis for years, then when people got bored they were zombies, and now we’ll need something else. Maybe aliens again?

You see this need for cannon fodder in a lot of games and that’s why something like Avengers didn’t work because fighting mindless robots that never talk is no fun. At least zombies are scary or intelligent enemies can talk to you. We want to shoot real people, but just not real people that make us feel guilty about it. Chas

Fantasy series I wonder if the Fallout TV series is a success, would that lead to a series based on The Elder Scrolls? I know a lot of people would say his fantasy world is too general, but I’ve always found it a bit unfair. It might cool the dragons a bit as it might be a bit over the top, but things like lizards and cats aren’t something you see in many fantasy worlds on TV.

Redguards are also quite unique and it would be interesting to strengthen them a bit. I think the problem with Elder Scrolls is that a lot of people don’t really follow the story and just do their thing, so they get lost in what is going on even if they beat the game. However, if you focus on the story like you did on the show, I think it would be okay. Tenris

Brutal success. I wonder what I’m assuming is the minimum amount Microsoft would ever pay to play Game Pass, and it’s still half a million. They have around 100 games in service and they always turn into new ones so yeah it’s an expensive thing to drive. Especially since they are now making much less money selling games on their own because everyone knows they can play them for free on Game Pass.

Of course, it doesn’t matter if it becomes profitable, but I think we can bet that if it did, Microsoft would be singing that fact from the rooftops. Maybe it will be so in the future. The more people join, the closer it gets, so it’s by no means a waste of money for them.

However, this is another example of Microsoft just using brute force to get to the top. Got too few games? Just buy everyone who produces them? Not enough people buy your consoles? Use your Infinite War Chest to run a very high value service for years at a loss until your competitors go bankrupt. The success of the Xbox Series X has nothing to do with innovation or smartness, only Microsoft’s bank balance.

Everything has to stop. I understand why a lot of people are unhappy with Microsoft buying anything unrelated, but the Lord of the Rings story makes it clear that they are positively picky compared to the Embracer Group (whoever they are, I still don’t really understand).

The list of companies they bought this week is so random, it’s crazy. Lord of the Rings, some 2-bit developers, and the company that owns all of the Toaplan back directory ?! This is crazy. People are talking about Microsoft not being able to manage all of their new acquisitions, but who will Embracer donate that little part? There has to be an interface between them and the Toaplan guys, but who? More importantly why?

I am concerned that their purchases are so random, what happens when money starts to run out and they realize that some of those purchases were not so reasonable? More closed studios and more people out of work, that’s going to happen, Benson

One Bad Decision I would say Lucasfilm Games has made some pretty wise decisions since their comeback. The new Monkey Island by the original developer features many different Star Wars games in different genres, as well as Indiana Jones by the Wolfenstein guys. I don’t know about Ubisoft licensing for Star Wars, it’s a bit like someone just said “Who’s famous for open world games” and left it that way. Not realizing that “infamous” would be more accurate in the case of Ubisoft. But we haven’t seen the game yet, so I’ll try to stay optimistic.

However, what makes no sense and seems to have been orchestrated by a completely different set of people is this Knights Of The Old Republic defeat. I wouldn’t trust BioWare to make this game these days, and yet their first idea was to hire a Mac ports company? And now their second idea is to give it to the people behind World War Z? I mean, I’d like to know who else they considered and chose not to go. I just don’t think you can make a remake, not without costing the Earth and using the absolute best developer, and which of the best developers would like to remake someone’s game?

The only way out is to simply restart or continue, which should have been obvious before they even announced a remake.

Weekly schedule I liked the article on Jack Link’s research results, although I am always wary of companies commissioning research that confirm what they want here and not what may actually be true (just look at the questionable studies that have been carried out on the effect of milk on the body). In any case, I’d say I play video games an average of about 11 hours a week as I work full time, look after my elderly grandmother and try to take care of myself by cooking my own meals (I’m a vegetarian if that has any impact on matters ).

I usually have an evening out with the “boys” playing games on Friday night. These sessions usually last 3 to 4 hours, but often start late, around 9:10 PM. Remember this is a Friday after a full week of work and I usually stay awake at 7am so until then I run on fumes and fall asleep a few times – no wonder my K / D Ratio is so low.

I don’t like eating and playing because I don’t want my controller to be the color of Cheeto Dust, but I will eat a high protein meal before playing with the boys (Friday night is chilli sin carne night) and I don’t know how to stay hydrated well, yet I still fall asleep.

When I have time to play at the weekend, I don’t play very long, maybe two to three hours. I spend enough time looking at the screen at work so I don’t want to damage my eyes anymore and not eat while doing it. I usually play before dinner, so I have a good, hearty meal afterwards. I don’t fall asleep during these sessions, probably because I haven’t gotten up in over 16 hours then. Sunshine

Big and Ugly I walked into my local game store today and grabbed the PlayStation 5 Horizon Forbidden West kit from the shelf. I came home and unpacked it, and my goodness is gracious, what a hideous thing in the body!

And what a behemoth he is, he is gargantuan! Who in their right mind would like to show this monstrosity? The controller is pretty decent, remember. Dirtystopout

No catastrophe has finally defeated the Stray! It only took a little over eight hours! Considering it can be beaten in a quarter of this time, it’s a fairly quiet whimper …

By the way, thanks for warning us about this opening! The sight of the little red killer machine falling from the pipes was a bit disturbing at first!

This is a very strange game, isn’t it? Having a bag of ideas for gameplay loops, but none of them are as compelling. Except, of course, the news you play as a kitty. Which goes very far. But what about that piece in the sewers where it looked like I was reuniting with the Mantorok of Eternal Darkness? The real cat would walk away: “No! I’m not going in there! Not for all dreamers and tuna fish in the world! ” After all, cats have a very strong sense of self-preservation.

Then there was a moment where moggy brought the robot keys so they could get out of the prison cell (Al-cat-raz! Ha!) And, um, okay – you really broke the limits of credibility there, Annapurna. Even though cats developed more social behavior over the course of several thousand years, this game is set, it’s a very generous assumption, and is not supported anywhere in the game. Unless I missed it.

There are still Vacuum Trophies, not that I’d like to. I don’t think that would quite fulfill the fantasy of being a cat. Several times I thought that a cat could jump higher and farther than we saw. I’ve seen real cats do it. They are the masters of nature’s parkour.

So why wasn’t it more of a platformer? I’m sorry to bring up memories of Bubsy or worse, Blinx. But hey, The Lion King worked pretty well a long time ago on Mega Drive, right? Well, most of it was free and lovely DMR

GC: That’s what we thought about it. It’s a very strange mosaic of ideas.

Also-rans inbox just to let people know GAME currently has a 20% discount on used games in the store (not sure about online). I was able to buy the £ 16 Deathloop and the Horizon Forbidden West for £ 28 on the PlayStation 5 which I didn’t think was lame at all.

Doom 64 is currently available for free on the Epic Store for a week. It’s normally £ 3.99. Andrew J.

When it comes to stealing stuff from work, I don’t think I’ve ever taken what could be called gaming related, but during the first blockade I stole some toilet paper from work. It was at a crazy time when people were hoarding it, and it was rare in stores. I’m not proud of it, but I’m not even sorry

GC: Until you sold it on eBay.

This Week’s Hot Topic The inbox topic this weekend was suggested by a Cranston reader asking what have you invested the most in the console war?

Which generation were you most passionate about and on which side were you among Sega, Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox and others? Do you regret any of the things you said or did then, and do you feel that you were ultimately right on the side you chose?

Have you ever regretted choosing a console and did you turn it over in this generation or at the beginning of the next? Which part of the modern gaming industry would you find most surprising in a console war?
