BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Those born into agriculture know what it’s like to get up before anyone else and work later than anyone else. Ellen Tom is a sixth generation farmer and has worked on her family’s cattle operation all her life.
“Every day when I’m working with my cattle, I keep in mind that this is a product that will feed and feed people all over the community, in the United States, maybe the world, and that’s always in the back of my mind,” Tom said.
Farmers like Tom know that their work is often thankless. Its appreciation comes from consumers buying what they produce.
“I chose this lifestyle, so I don’t believe in asking the public for things. I am happy that they love my product and want to consume it. but I chose this job,” said Tom.
As technology continues to change, farmers and ranchers continue to make adjustments to the way they do their jobs. Farmers hope to create the next generation for great success.
“Technology changes, times change, and you have to make the best of it,” Tom said. “We made it sustainable for the seventh generation to take over the ranch.”
