SYDNEY, Jan 7 (Reuters) – Taylor Fritz catapulted the United States into the final of the US Open with an emphatic 7-6(5) 7-6(5) win over Hubert Hurkacz from Poland before finishing 5-0 in. the $15 million mixed tour on Saturday.
The Americans got off to a strong start in the semi-finals after taking a 2-0 lead on Friday when Jessica Pegula and Frances Tiafoe won and world number nine Fritz won to finish the job against Hurkacz.
Indian Wells champion Fritz saved two points from 5-4 down in the opening set after a Hurkacz error and the American took the lead when he broke back. Unfortunately, another mistake was made at the end of the belt.
Fritz, who won 88% of his first points, needed a big serve to hold for 6-5 in the second set before winning another tough break to send his team to a fight with Italy or Greece.
“It was nice to get the win on the day we won. I have no doubt that if I had lost the rest of the team would have come,” said Fritz.

“I’m really happy to go to the final and I think we’ve been fans all week.”
Madison Keys then beat Magda Linette 6-4 6-2 to make it 4-0 before Fritz and Pegula came back from a set down to win the mixed doubles. to Lukasz Kubot and Alicja Rosolska 6-7(5) 6-4 10- 6 for a clean sweep.
Italy lead their semi-final against Greece 2-0 after Martina Trevisan and Lorenzo Musetti won their matches on Friday. Matteo Berrettini can book their place in the final with the victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the evening.
The final will be held in Sydney on Sunday.
