(CNN) – It’s been an unusual few years for the airline industry. After months of pandemic-related disruptions, travel has returned not with a bang, but in a flash, as many international airlines and airports struggle with cancellations and delays.
Amidst this turbulent travel season, Australia-based aviation security and product rating agency AirlineRatings.com has released its annual roundup of the world’s top airlines.
At the top for the second year in a row is Qatar Airways, with AirlineRatings.com citing the carrier’s commitment to flying over the past few years as a factor in the decision. Qatar Airways also won the Award of Excellence in Long Haul – Middle East/Africa.
“Qatar Airways’ decision to continue operating through the pandemic meant it became the world’s largest airline and posted a huge reward – the only major airline to do so,” Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings.com told CNN. Travel.

Thomas told CNN Travel the results show the continued impact of CCID-19 on air travel, but the recent spike in delays and cancellations has not affected the rates.
“The issue with the move is irrelevant as it’s an isolated incident,” said Thomas, who said the current incidents “are not aircraft manufacturing.”
Experts said the current problems are related to labor shortages, on-field issues, labor relations and the weather.
Overall, Thomas sees the rankings as good take on the travel industry today.
“The results show a high level of provision for passengers,” he said.
