The 2022 NFL season officially kicks off this week.
Before the players take to the pitch, fans are full of expectations as to which direction their team will take this year.
CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr recently surveyed all 32 NFL teams and provided the roof and floor for each team for the upcoming season.
Kerr threw the Minnesota Vikings ceiling 11-6 and won a playoff game. He wrote:
Vikings have players capable of competing for NFC North, as Minnesota has one of the two best wide conference receivers in Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. Dalvin Cook is one of the best running backs in the game and quarterback Kirk Cousins is good enough to make plays for this team.
The Vikings have recruited new manager Kevin O’Connell to create this attacking elite and provide stability to the roster. O’Connell could be the difference between skipping the playoffs and becoming an NFC contender. The Minnesota defense will certainly help, starting with the dangerous pair of quick passes by Za’Darius Smith and Danielle Hunter. Jordan Hicks and Eric Kendricks are also a threat to the linebacker.
Kerr added that the potential Vikings floor would be 7-10 and they will miss the playoffs. He said the offensive and secondary lines will be areas to watch.
Vikings CB Chandon Sullivan has a lot of “excitement” in preparation to face the former team
To say that Chandon Sullivan is excited about next season of the NFL is an understatement.
The Vikings cornerback will wear purple and gold for the first time on September 11th. Not only that, but his former team, the Green Bay Packers, will be on the opposing sideline.
“It’s the first game, so you’re always excited about it,” said Sullivan, who recently met Chris Tomasson of St. Paul Pioneer Press. “It’s the first game with a new shirt and I’m going against my old team. So you know I’m full of emotions, but I’ll be ready.”
Sullivan, along with Vikings outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith, spent the past three seasons with Green Bay before signing with Minnesota in the off-season.
Sullivan said he was thinking of signing with the Packers again, but decided it was a better situation for him to join the Vikings.
“(It was) just a better opportunity, I felt, to show my talents and be respected and appreciated,” Sullivan said. “A better chance for me to be a leader and I see more future here, for sure.”
Tomasson said Smith isn’t the only familiar face making the journey with Sullivan across the border. He wrote:
Mike Pettine, Vikings’ assistant coach, was Green Bay’s defensive coordinator from 2018-2020, which included Sullivan’s first two seasons with the Packers. And Vikings Outside Linebackers manager Mike Smith has had that role for the past three years with Green Bay.
Tomasson added that Sullivan is comfortable with the 3-4 defensive scheme that the Vikings will implement under defensive coordinator Ed Donatell.
“It was a smooth transition, ” Sullivan said.” I knew what I was doing with the coaching staff and players who are here, and it was an easy transition, and I’m ready to go. I’ve been in similar defenses for the past few years, so I’m able to use my experience from last year and previous years to come here and be a veteran leader. “
When it comes to providing tips on how to slow Green Bay’s offense, especially quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Sullivan said he’ll do his best.
“I’m about to give the little details I have that I can share, but you never know what you’re going to get,” Sullivan said. “It’s the first game and we will have a lot of unexplored looks … But we just have to be disciplined and trust our details.”
