ANNAPOLIS, Md.- Dr. Ed McDevitt was inducted into the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) Hall of Fame this past weekend in Colorado Springs, Colorado, joining other legendary orthopedic surgeons such as Jim Andrews and Frank Jobe, as well as former The Naval Academy orthopedic surgeons John Bergfeld, Jay Cox, Bill Clancy, and Douglas Brown. Dr. McDevitt remains highly active with Navy Orthopedics and Navy Athletics long after his retirement from the Navy.

Captain McDevitt, USN (retired) graduated from Bucknell University in 1973 and played college basketball and football. He went on to medical school at Hahnemann Medical College and, after an internship, completed his orthopedic residency at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth.

McDevitt served at the Naval Academy as Orthopedic Surgeon and Chief Medical Officer from 1987 to 1999. During his time at the Naval Academy, McDevitt earned the respect and admiration of student athletes through his personalized service and established himself as a leader in sports medicine publishing a landmark study on functional orthosis after ACL reconstruction.
