Class 2023 end defender Adepoju Adebawore announced his verbal commitment to the Sooners on Sunday.

Oklahoma’s July recruiting momentum held into Sunday.

Kansas City defensive end Adepoju “P.J.” Adebawore announced its commitment to the Sooners over Georgia, LSU, Missouri and Northwestern on Sunday afternoon.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end is the first defensive line commitment in Oklahoma in the 2023 recruitment class.

Rated a 4-star recruit by both 247 Sports and Rivals, Adebawore is a versatile athlete who uses his explosive first steps to blow up tough lineman opponents.

Adebawore was a Class 5 All-State First Team selection last year, when he starred at North Kansas City High School.

Previously, Adebawore visited Norman during OU’s Champ U BBQ in June, and he was offered by Chavis and Sooners back in February.

Adebawore is Miguel Chavis ’defensive end coach for the first of the 2023 class, as the new position coach conducts a strong appearance from the final days of the 2022 class until this recruitment cycle.

Class of 2023 Oklahoma currently has 14 strong players, and is led by standout quarterback Jackson Arnold.

Adebawore joined safety Caleb Spencer and linebackers Phil Picciotti and Samuel Omosigho as defensive addition Brent Venables to the class so far.

The standout defensive lineman has been Oklahoma’s fifth verbal promise of the month, and is OU’s seventh recruiting victory since offensive lineman Heath Ozaeta committed to the Sooners on June 27th.

Venables and Co. also not yet completed this month, as there are still some recruitment targets on the OU board that are scheduled to announce their own commitments before July to August.
