Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are considered the two best quarterbacks of their generation.

Brady is generally treated as the superior of the two, and that’s largely due to his unmatched resume, which is adorned with more Lombardi trophies (seven) than any other NFL franchise.

But according to former NFL linebacker Bart Scott, Manning was the more feared matchup for opposing defense.

“I’d much rather face Tom Brady any day of the week than Peyton Manning,” Scott said on ESPN radio this week. “I think everyone is like that.

“Tom Brady was more about Bill Belichick, the whole team, the execution, that they have a game plan.”

Scott hit both quarterbacks a total of 19 times, hitting Manning five times in the regular season and three times in the postseason. He met Brady 10 times in the regular season and once in the playoffs.

Manning eliminated Scott’s teams twice in the postseason – once in 2006 and again in 2009. Scott’s 2010 Jets beat both Manning and Brady en route to the AFC title game.

“The only thing that was offensive was when he said it was more about Bill Belichick than Tom Brady,” Emmanuel Acho said on Monday’s Speak For Yourself. “Tom Brady has proven that he is a bigger success factor than Belichick.

“Peyton Manning is far scarier. I’ve sat in defensive meeting rooms. This isn’t even a subjective conversation. Based on Peyton sitting in defensive briefing rooms with multiple defensive coordinators on multiple defensive teams, he was significantly scarier.”

Bart Scott: Defenses rather face Tom Brady than Peyton Manning

Tom Brady is a seven-time Super Bowl champion, but former Pro Bowl linebacker Bart Scott said, “I’d much rather face Tom Brady than Peyton Manning any day of the week.”

For Acho, both QBs had significant handling of football, but Manning’s was very different.

“Peyton Manning would do you wrong. Tom Brady would just wait for you to be wrong, and there’s a difference. … If someone gets you wrong, you can never be right, but Tom Brady has to wait for you to be wrong.

“When you played Peyton, it was like you were never right.”

“This conversation sounds overblown when you read it in the headlines, but if you delve deep into it, you realize it’s not overdone at all,” Wiley said. “This is just the pulse of the nation. … Let me give you an example.

“We’re playing Peyton on Monday night and he’s been yelling ‘gun!’ the whole first half, which means run right Harrison?” Touchdown. Peyton Manning gave you bait. His head was a calculator on this field. He went out and calculated things. Don’t let that team success mask the fact that if you had to face one, you feared another. And it was obviously Peyton Manning.”
