Shaft Gives Samuel L. Jackson His Coolest Character

Of all the grueling private detectives who have made their way to the big screen, John Shaft is the coolest. Director John Singleton’s 2000 film Shaft served as a sequel to the 1970s film series, starring Samuel L. Jackson as the presumed cousin of the classic character, and Richard Roundtree reprising his celebrated role. Shaft is leaving Prime Video at the end of July, leaving the public with limited time to see Jackson in one of his coolest roles.

A frustrated Shaft resigns from the New York City Police Department over a racially motivated murder committed by wealthy real estate mogul Walter Wade (Christian Bale). Now operating alone, Shaft becomes the target of a gang associated with Wade as he attempts to bring Wade to justice on his own terms. With an all-star cast, Shaft has all the swagger and effortless cool that made the franchise so iconic in the first place, with Jackson confidently taking the mantle.

Fargo Brings Dark Humor to Minnesota

While Fargo is one of the most acclaimed television shows, the story that started it all is the 1996 feature film written, directed and produced by the Coen Brothers. The Academy Award-winning crime comedy is leaving Prime Video at the end of the month, giving audiences the chance to see the movie that started it all. And more than 25 years later, Fargo is still one of the greatest projects the Coen Brothers have ever made.

Set in the Minnesota town of the same name, Fargo has Police Chief Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) investigate a series of murders that began when a local car salesman (William H. Macy) hires two criminals to kidnap and ransom his wife. With his dark, gory sense of humor, Fargo combines violent crime with hilarity of life, while portraying the city’s eccentric residents. With a fifth season set in the same fictional universe currently in production, here’s your chance to see the origins of this dark, wacky world.
