It only took three years, but the wait for Stranger Things season 4 was worth it. Hopefully, we won’t be in store for a similar wait for the highly anticipated fifth and final season of Netflix’s flagship series. With the renewal already confirmed and production expected to begin at some point in 2022, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the fifth and final season of Stranger Things on Netflix.
Since its introduction in July 2016, Stranger Things has been the flagship series on Netflix. Each season has gone from strength to strength, becoming more popular with each new release. With the show ending with season 5, it’s the beginning of the end for Stranger Things on Netflix.
If three years have been too long a wait for some subscribers, the figures are very much at odds with them. In the first week of volume 1 of season 4 landing on Netflix, a Nielsen streaming record was broken as 7.2 billion minutes of the series were watched between May 30 and June 5, 2022. Demand for the show is was so high upon the release of Volume 2 that some Netflix users experienced crashes as subscribers ran to consume the epic conclusion of season 4.

We learned in advance that Netflix had already renewed Stranger Things for the fifth and final season. It’s a no-brainer for Netflix to renew its most popular TV show.
Prior to the fourth season’s production, the Duffer Brothers were unsure of the number of seasons required to tell the full story of Stranger Things.
We don’t actually know. I think, you know, it’s likely that four to five seasons will be over, but who knows? I mean, none of this is official and we know where we want to go. We’re still trying to figure out how long it will take to get there, so we’ll see.

The Duffer Brothers weren’t sure before, but it’s all confirmed now that Stranger Things fifth season will be the last.

What to expect from Stranger Things season 5?
Welcome to Hell, Hawkins, Indiana
Despite their best efforts, Vecna aka Henry aka 001 has managed to carry out his plan to open a giant gate between the Upside Down and the real world. Dozens of people have died in the chaos that followed, and residents are leaving en masse to escape any further potential danger.
Thanks to the gigantic plumes of smoke emitted from the gigantic gates, the particles falling all around Hawkins will lead to a rapid decomposition of all plant life. Soon real-world Hawkins will emulate Hawkins’ appearance from the Upside Down as Vecna’s vision for her “beautiful” new world begins to take shape.
As Hawkins falls further into chaos, expect to see a large military presence surrounding the town, with only a very few residents and our heroes left to keep fighting Vecna.
Vecna’s Return / 001 vs 011
Vecna came very close to being killed by Nancy, Steve and Robin, but managed to escape before anyone could deal a killing blow. It is unclear how injured he is and how long it takes him to recover from multiple explosions of guns and Molotov cocktails. Once fully recovered, we expect to see Vecna unleash her true powers on Hawkins and unleash the hordes of monsters from the Upside Down.
The only person capable of fighting Vecna one-on-one is Eleven, and she barely survived her second fight with him. There’s no denying Eleven’s strength is vast, but it’s more than likely we’ve just scratched the surface of what its true potential is. If Eleven wants to defeat Vecna, he’ll have to practice and hone his powers.
Hawkins to be Quarantined?
Given the danger the gates pose not only to Hawkins, but the rest of the world, the military could declare martial law in the area and potentially quarantine Hawkins. We can expect to see a strong military presence, especially if any Demogorgons and other monstrosities begin to emerge from the gates.
Unfortunately, for the people of Hawkins, those who are unable to leave town before quarantine begins may have to fend for themselves while the military wages war against the forces of the Upside Down.
What will happen to the gates?
If Vecna is successfully defeated by Eleven, this does not guarantee that the gates of the Upside Down will be closed. In fact, it may take Eleven to replicate what it did with the gate under Hawkin’s Lab in Season 2 and forcibly close it on its own. That first gate was big but pales in comparison to what Vecna did to Hawkins. Not only will it take every ounce of Eleven’s power, but closing the gates may require Eleven to sacrifice himself.
Will Max wake up?
Max’s death brought Vecna’s plan to fruition, but unexpectedly Eleven was able to bring Max back to life. Between death, broken limbs and potentially going blind, it’s no wonder Max is in a coma. We expect Max to wake up, but it remains to be seen in what condition he will be.
If Max wakes up and is completely healed, Eleven has the power to bring people back to life from the dead. The consequences of such a power have not yet been explored, but with some potential deaths coming in Season 5, Eleven will be more needed than ever.
Time Skip
The Duffer Brothers have already announced that another time jump will occur in history and potentially resume around 1988 or 1989. This coincides with the real-life age of the actors, who are already past their 15-year old counterparts, such as Gaten Matarazzo who turns 20 in September 2022, and during the production of season 5, will turn 21.

Little is known about the production status of the fifth season of Stranger Things.
According to Collider, the writing of the fifth season is expected to begin in August 2022. The Duffer Brothers told the outlet they would take a “little vacation in July” adding “And then we’ll be back. I know the writer’s room will start in that first. week of August ».
Other than this information, no filming dates have been reported, but we can suspect we’ll know more very soon.
Once the scripts have been written, finished and ready for table reading, filming will follow soon after.

Who lives? Who dies?
Unexpectedly, none of the original cast members died in the fourth season of Stranger Things. This leaves us with the concern that some of our favorite heroes may be victims of tragic and heroic deaths.
We’ve compiled our list of the top ten characters most likely to die in Stranger Things Season 5:
1. Steve
Steve was once doomed to death in the first season of Stranger Things before the Duffer Brothers changed their minds, and in subsequent seasons he became everyone’s favorite character and babysitter. Being a fan favorite, Steve is always at the top of the list of characters who could die. Not only would the fan base be completely hysterical and potential riots ensue, but if Steve were to die, we could see one of the most heroic and greatest deaths in television history.
2. Will
Will is ranked extremely high on this list due to the theory that Vecna could still exert some influence on the boy and could potentially possess him once again to make his fight with Eleven that much more difficult. It would be an extremely tragic end for a character who has experienced so much trauma before, but Will is the kind of person who would gladly give his life if it means defeating Vecna.
3. Eleven
As the de facto main character of Stranger Things, many would assume that Eleven should be safe from death. However, to subvert expectations there is still a gigantic chance that saving the lives of his loved ones and saving the town of Hawkins may require the greatest sacrifice of all, his life.
Between a fatal fight with Vecna and potentially being the one who will permanently close the gates to the Upside Down, Eleven may have to go beyond her limits to save everyone.
4. Hopper
Between being tortured, beaten, shot, nearly vaporized, and one-on-one with a Demogorgon, Hopper has gone close to death on many occasions. As a father figure in the series and one of the only competent adults, Hopper is constantly thrown headlong into danger and isn’t afraid to put himself in danger to save the people he cares about.
Everyone will be in mortal danger in season 5, and if Hopper can sacrifice himself to save the likes of Eleven, Joyce, or any of the guys, he better believe he will.
5. Jonathan
Jonathan struggled for a considerable amount of screen time in Stranger Things season 4, but one of the most heartfelt moments is when he reassured his little brother, Will, that no matter what will always be there for him. There’s also the question surrounding his relationship status with Nancy, with the couple possibly falling out of love with each other, but they both struggle to admit their true feelings and move on.
Of all young adults, aside from Steve, we can’t shake the feeling that he’s the most expendable to a great death.
6. Murray
Murray has been one of the best additions to the cast since he debuted in season 2. As one of the most useful and resourceful characters in the series, Murray is also incredibly brave and isn’t afraid to put himself in harm’s way to help the likes of Joyce. and Hopper. It will be fun to see Murray interact with multiple cast members in season five, and if bonds are formed, Murray is ripe for killing.
7. Mike
Will has stated that Mike is the heart of the party and, as Eleven’s boyfriend, makes him a prime target for Vecna. Mike’s death would galvanize the group into destroying their morale and could be the potential push over the edge that Eleven would need to destroy Vecna.
8. Lucas
For what Vecna did to Max, Lucas has every reason to want to take revenge. While he’s not a hothead, when it comes time to protect those he cares about, Lucas steps forward. He may not be Vecna’s number one target, but her love for Max definitely puts him in danger. To protect Max, his sister or his friends, Lucas may be the victim of Vecna’s wrath.
9. Joyce
It was difficult to put Joyce on this list, but if the Duffer Brothers were really ready to subvert expectations, Joyce is a great candidate for death. Like most adults in the series, you might expect Joyce to throw herself into the clutches of death if that means saving the lives of others, especially if it means saving Jonathan or Will.
10. Robin
What places Robin on this list is the reluctance the Duffer Brothers have shown to kill off Season 1 characters. Just because she’s a fan favorite doesn’t mean she’s safe from being killed, and since season 5 is the final season, no characters are safe.
When is the Stranger Things season 5 Netflix release date?
As optimistic as the fans may be, sadly we will be waiting a long time for the fifth season of Stranger Things.
Production each season is incredibly large, and while we can blame the pandemic for the delayed release of season 4, it would still have been a long wait.
Before the pandemic stopped production, about a month of filming had taken place. Filming was delayed for six months and did not resume until the end of September 2020. Production wrapped up with the fourth season about a year later, when actor Noah Schnapp confirmed that filming was over. If you take into account that it took another 8 months for Volume 1 to be released on Netflix, that gives us a total of 21 months, or 27 months if you add the production delay. When you consider the running time of Season 4, it’s no surprise that it took so long to shoot.
We would be extremely impressed if the fifth and final season arrives on Netflix in late 2023, however, we expect we won’t see the finale arrive until the spring or summer of 2024.
Will Netflix split season 5 in half?
There’s a big chance Stranger Things’ final season will be split in half. We saw this recently with the release of Stranger Things season 4 and previously with the final seasons of Ozark, Lucifer and Money Heist.
Will we get a blockbuster-sized final season?
The fourth season featured some of the longest running times in the history of the show. Notably, the finale had a staggering 139 minutes, which is longer than most feature films.
Even without the finale, Season 4 is nearly four hours longer than Season 1 and over 3 hours longer than Season 3. When you include the final runtime of season 4, Stranger Things season 4 takes over six hours longer than season 1.
Long story short, even though each midseason only contains four episodes, fans will be involved in a long and wild climatic ride.
