Street artist Banksy is to be made an honorary professor, a university has announced.
The University of the Creative Arts (UCA), which has campuses in Kent and Surrey, recognizes him for his “humanitarian efforts” and “the impact he has had on the global art scene”.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Royal Festival Hall in London on July 6.
The UCA said Banksy would not be present and the honor would go to an empty chair.

Professor Terry Perk, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UCA, told BBC Radio Surrey: “Banksy has been overlooked in the past. He’s a bit of an art world outsider in terms of the elite of the art world. art.
“But he certainly had an impact on the art world and the imagination of the general public, and we wanted to mark that at our university.”
Professor Perk said the UCA had contacted Banksy through their representatives and that they had “acknowledged our intention” to award the prize.
Professor Bashir Makhoul, President and Vice-Chancellor of UCA, said: “He is an example for UCA students to look up to, who uses his talents to disrupt the status quo, while challenging us all. to confront some of the key issues of our time – war and peace, inequality – and the role of art as a vehicle for social expression.”
