September 12 is National Video Games Day, and Monroe County Community College is celebrating by hosting an open house for a number of its programs to prepare students for careers in the field of video game design and development.

The National Video Games Day Open House begins at 6:00 p.m. in Founders Hall, Room 140. It will feature the App Development, Computer Science, and Game Design and Development programs.

Prospective students can learn about the programs, meet faculty and current students, and see demonstrations of former students’ work.

The open house is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To sign up, go to monroeccc.edu/videogames.

According to daysoftheyear.com, gaming is a pervasive part of our culture, coloring everything from our choices in clothing to our tastes in cuisine, and there are even themed restaurants dedicated to gamers and the games they love. National Video Games Day was created to encourage people to celebrate this defining part of our culture and share it with our fellow gamers, new and old.

MCCC’s associate of applied science degree with specialization in application development is designed to train students in web and mobile app development.
