ANTANANARIVO – The United States Embassy today organized a multicultural exchange between American teachers and students from Lafayette College, Pennsylvania, and Malagasy students and teachers from Lycée Andohalo as part of the Lafayette Initiative for the Malagasy education (LIME). This three-week intercultural partnership between the two institutions promotes understanding between Americans and Malagasy. Since its inception in 2010, 150 Lafayette College students and faculty have mentored nearly 300 Malagasy high school students through the US study application process; ten of these students continued their studies in the United States.
This year, Malagasy students met with EducationUSA Madagascar’s counselor about applying to US colleges and heard from two US-educated Malagasy alumni about living and studying in the United States. Students also discovered many resources available at American Corners. U.S. mentors and students met with the Public Diplomacy Officer to learn more about the work of diplomacy and the role of U.S. embassies around the world.
