WASHINGTON, Jan 7 (Reuters) – The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said on Saturday it had agreed to partner with the Korea Civil Aviation Authority (KOCA) in the future development and operations of advanced air mobility aircraft.
The two countries signed a declaration on cooperation and information exchange on advanced air mobility projects and joint work on promoting safety oversight of advanced air mobility projects, the US regulator announced.
“Working with our international partners to safely integrate these new technologies will create more efficient, sustainable and equitable transportation options,” said Billy Nolen, acting FAA administrator.
The announcement comes as companies around the world race to develop and eventually win regulatory approval to deploy low-altitude air taxis known as electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
The FAA previously announced similar partnerships with Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand in the National Aviation Authorities Network to align certification and integration plans for advanced air mobility projects.
Airlines and others are looking at developing transportation services using battery-powered aircraft that can take off and land vertically to ferry passengers to airports or on short trips between cities, allowing them to beat traffic.
Last month, the FAA issued airworthiness criteria that Archer Aviation ( ACHR.N ) would have to meet in order for its M001 air taxi to be certified for use.
The FAA released criteria for public comment on Archer’s eVTOL after making a similar announcement in November for Joby Aviation’s ( JOBY.N ) JAS4-1 eVTOL model.

What are the 3 components of air power?
3. The fundamental attributes of air power, which are unique and contribute to a wide range of effects, are speed, range and altitude. Speed allows air power to use time and control tempo.
What are the three basic categories of air operations? There are 3 types of combat air operations to consider, namely anti-aircraft operations, anti-surface operations and strategic air offensive operations. Read also : The United States implements the Taiwan Strait under tensions with China.

What are the 4 basic key roles to air power?
Those four fundamental roles of the Air Force are: intelligence and situational awareness; air mobility; Attack; and Air Control. What is air power and its characteristics?
The three basic properties of the atmosphere enable the three basic properties of air power: 1) speed, 2) range, and 3) altitude.
What is a UAM vehicle?
What is urban air mobility? Urban Air Mobility (UAM) envisions a safe and efficient air transportation system that will use highly automated aircraft to operate and transport passengers or cargo at lower altitudes within urban and suburban areas.
How many UAM companies are there? With around 200 companies involved in the development of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVOTL) vehicles, UAM is increasingly seen as the future option for affordable, fast and sustainable long-distance travel, with some companies looking to launch their services as early as the end of 2022.
Why do we need UAM?
What can UAM be used for? UAM aircraft can be used for various operations: passenger transport (eg air taxi, airport transport, sightseeing, medical/emergency transport of patients or first aiders, etc.), cargo transport (last mile delivery of small goods, cargo, medical /emergency equipment etc.).
What is an example of urban air mobility?
It usually refers to existing and new technologies such as traditional helicopters, vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft, electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).
What is UAS and UAM?
Since both are new types of aviation technology, there is often confusion between Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Urban Air Mobility (UAM).
Is there a future for eVTOL?
September 14, 2022 – Hilderman writes that “getting eVTOL off the ground, so to speak, is a top priority in the future of avionics, and many experts believe the vehicles are only a few years away from full production.
Who invests in eVTOL? United Airlines has doubled its stake in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft by investing $15 million in Eve Air Mobility in addition to the stake it already has in Archer Aviation, an eVTOL startup based in California.
How big is the eVTOL industry?
Pune, India, Dec. 21, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The global eVTOL aircraft market size is estimated at USD 1.11 billion in 2020. The market value is expected to grow from USD 5.41 billion in 2021 to 23, 21 billion USD in 2028 at a CAGR of 23.13% during 2021-2028.
Will eVTOL happen?
Latest updates. Acting FAA Administrator Billy Nolen told reporters last week that the agency doesn’t expect the first eVTOL to begin commercial operations until late 2024 or more likely early 2025. “Either way, that won’t happen until the safety part is satisfied,” he said. . He said.
Who is leading eVTOL?
Vertical Aerospace Its VX4 made its first successful test flight in September 2022. The company leads the eVTOL sales race with conditional orders for more than 1,400 aircraft with a pre-order book valued at around $5.6 billion.
