We welcome the release of the U.S. citizen. Kyaw Htay Oo in a Burmese prison, where he was wrongly detained for more than 14 months. We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners and allies who joined us in pressuring the Burmese military regime to release him. We also welcome the release of a number of political prisoners and other foreign prisoners and we continue to call for the release of the many thousands of political prisoners who remain in Burma.

The safety and security of Americans around the world is one of my top priorities as Secretary of State, and we will not stop working to preserve the freedom of U.S. citizens.
