China has followed a pattern of influence operations that began earlier this century on the Pacific Rim to try to shift narratives towards China’s preferred viewpoints, promote pro-China politicians – or sometimes just to sow chaos and falsehoods. US law enforcement officials are warning Americans that they should be prepared for such interference in the 2022 midterm elections. The cybersecurity arms of Google and Meta have warned of Chinese midterm online interference.
