Today, US and Canadian military planes have arrived in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to donate essential safety equipment purchased by the Haitian government, including tactical and armored vehicles and supplies to the Haitian National Police (HNP) general manager. The delivery of the equipment was part of a joint operation between the US Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force.

This equipment will help the HNP fight criminals who fuel the violence and disrupt the flow of much-needed humanitarian aid, hampering efforts to contain the spread of cholera.

The United States and Canada remain committed to supporting the work of the HNP in protecting and serving Haiti. In cooperation with international partners, our governments are working with Haitian partners to strengthen Haiti’s capacity to train additional police officers and improve law enforcement activities.

The United States and Canada commend the international community for mobilizing new commitments to support Haiti’s most urgent needs and call on international partners to live up to these commitments. We encourage partner countries to contribute to the United Nations Basket Fund to restore peace and security to the Haitian people. Together with the Government of Haiti, the United States and Canada reaffirm the importance of working together to restore security in Haiti.
