The Zimbabwean sanctions program is a political program targeting human rights abusers and those who undermine democracy or facilitate corruption. The sanctions imposed by the United States on the people of Zimbabwe, the country of Zimbabwe, or the banking sector of Zimbabwe. The sanctions are not meant to be permanent but to encourage change, and these exclusions reflect that. Each year, the US government removes hundreds of individuals and organizations from the SDN List. Each deduction is based on a detailed analysis. Maintaining the integrity of US sanctions is a top priority and is the driving principle behind a rigorous review process that evaluates each individual removal request on its merits and applies the same standards to all.
Also, the United States is appointing Stephen Mutamba, the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Republic of Zimbabwe, pursuant to Executive Order No. 13469, for his role in undermining Zimbabwe’s democracy and institutions. In the last two years, Mutamba has organized several activities that threaten and paralyze legitimate political parties and other opposition to the policies of the Zimbabwean government or the ruling party, the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU). -PF). It is important that the government of Zimbabwe allows participation in politics.
The United States continues to stand with the people of Zimbabwe in the fight against corruption, violations of human rights, and efforts to destroy democratic systems or institutions. We will not hesitate to identify those who undermine Zimbabwe’s democracy and institutions or who fall within the scope of our sanctions program.
