On September 11, 2001, ordinary Americans performed extraordinary acts of bravery. Firefighters and police rushed to the wrecked houses and doused the flames to save others. EMTs, construction workers, friends, and strangers cared for the injured. The passengers and crew gave their lives to prevent another attack. And a generation of women and men answered the call of duty by joining our Armed Forces to protect our freedom and our democracy.
These patriots – people of fearless courage, extraordinary determination, and unwavering perseverance – will remain forever in our country. They are reminders that we are a great country because we are good people. On this Patriot’s Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance, we honor the heroes and victims of September 11th, and we rededicate ourselves to the spirit of unity, patriotism, and service that running our Nation today. followed.
Before they became national heroes, the women and men we honor have long been heroes to many others. These are the mothers who put their children to bed at night. They were the boys who drove the neighborhood carts to school. They are daughters who made their parents proud and sons who raised their friends. For the American families in America their pain is very special today: Our entire Nation, including Jill, is holding you in our hearts and sending our love to you. I know from personal experience that memories can bring everything back like it happened today

On this day, let us honor the memory of the innocent victims we lost and continue the legacy of the selfless heroes who served our Nation on September 11th and beyond. Let’s also recognize the members of our intelligence and counter-terrorism forces who worked with integrity and determination to bring justice to Ayman al-Zawahiri, the emir of al-Qaeda and a mastermind of this and other violent attacks against our people.

THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2022, as Patriot Day and the Day of Service and Remembrance of the Country. I call on all departments, agencies, and apparatuses of the United States to display the United States flag at half-staff on Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance to honor the individual who died their lives on September 11, 2001. . I invite the Governors of the United States and its Territories and interested organizations and individuals to participate in this celebration. I call upon the people of the United States to participate in community services to honor those lost to our Nation, to celebrate this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, including memorial services, and to observe quiet time begins at 8:46 am eastern. It is a day to honor the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
