Throughout her life, Queen Elizabeth II always showed her deep commitment to maintaining close ties between the United Kingdom and the United States.

Jane Hartley, the US Ambassador to Britain, told CBS Mornings that there is no closer ally of the United States than the Queen herself.

“I think she loved America and we loved her. When I arrived it was just before the platinum anniversary and I was amazed at the number of people on the street just adoring her. And there was so much respect. But there were many, many Americans there,” Hartley said.

After the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Queen ordered the Stars and Stripes to be played outside Buckingham Palace to show solidarity with Americans.

The President said it was likely he would attend her upcoming funeral. All flags at US federal and military installations were flown at half-mast in honor of the Queen.
