The United States, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing $100,000 in direct assistance to support people affected by severe flooding in Pakistan as a result of heavy monsoon rains since mid-June. The floods, as well as landslides and glacial lake outbursts, caused at least 573 deaths and more than 900 injuries. In addition, almost 50,000 houses have been damaged or destroyed, an estimated 100,000 livestock have been lost, and the flood has damaged roads and more than one million hectares of crops.
With this funding, the US government is supporting partners to provide multi-purpose cash assistance to meet the immediate needs of the most affected communities. US officials in the region and in Washington, D.C., are closely monitoring the humanitarian impact of the floods in coordination with partners on the ground.
