MONDAY, July 11, 2022 (HealthDay News) — As the coronavirus continues to evolve, a new highly contagious omicron variant is emerging in India and other countries, including the United States, experts say.

This new mutation – dubbed BA.2.75 – is worrying scientists because it appears to be spreading quickly and bypassing the protection provided by COVID-19 vaccines and immunity from previous infections, the Associated Press reported Monday. However, whether it can cause more serious illnesses than other forms of COVID-19 is not clear, the experts said.

“It’s very early for us to jump to too many conclusions,” Matthew Binnicker, Ph.D., director of clinical virology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., told the AP. “But it looks like transmission rates, particularly in India, are showing some sort of exponential increase.”

Shishi Luo, Ph.D., is the chief of infectious diseases at Helix, a company that provides virus sequencing information to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Luo told the AP that the emergence of this new variant around the world “is an early sign that it’s spreading.”

In addition to India and three recent cases in the United States, BA.2.75 has been detected in 10 other countries including Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom and Canada.

Experts worry that this variant can bind to cells more easily and evade the body’s protective antibodies. But vaccines and boosters are still the best defense against severe COVID-19, the news report said. Reformulated vaccines targeting newer Omicron variants should be available in the United States this fall.

What animals live in Craters of the Moon?

Crepuscular animals include mule deer, coyotes, porcupines, mountain cottontails, rabbits and many songbirds. Some desert animals are diurnal or mainly active during the day. These include ground squirrels, marmots, chipmunks, lizards, snakes, hawks and eagles. Pronghorn wander through lunar craters.

Is every crater on the moon the same depth?

The most famous craters have diameters of 80-100 km or more, with depths of about 4 to over 9 km: their depth is only about 1/15 to 1/25 of their diameter. More popularly, these large craters are “flatter” than your plate.

How deep are craters on the moon? Types of craters Most small craters, less than 15 km in diameter, are simple craters. Complex craters like Tycho (85 km in diameter and 4. See the article : The Mindfulness app ‘Moon’ has been upgraded with its own music radio treatment.5 km deep) have well-defined crater rims and a central crest. Most craters between 20 and 175 km in diameter and complex craters.

What is the deepest crater on the Moon known by?

Feature. Shortly after the moon formed, an asteroid crashed into its southern hemisphere, digging out a truly huge crater, the South Pole-Aitken Basin, almost 1,500 miles wide and more than five miles deep.

Are all craters the same size?

The size and shape of the crater and the amount of material excavated depend on factors such as the velocity and mass of the impacting body and the geology of the surface. The faster the incoming impactor, the bigger the crater.

Are all the Moon’s craters the same depth?

Their depth is only a small fraction, about 1/15 to 1/25 of their diameter. So these “deep pits” are actually shallower than plates. In contrast, fresh craters less than about 15 to 20 km (9 to 12.5 miles) in diameter have a much higher depth-to-diameter ratio.

How much space junk is on the moon?

Galactic Garbage Can: There is 400,000 pounds of garbage on the moon.

Who has the most space junk in space? So there we have it, Russia and its Commonwealth allies currently have the most space junk in circulation, closely followed by the US, China, France and India.

How much space junk is there in total?

Size. As of January 2019, there are an estimated over 128 million pieces of debris smaller than 1 cm (0.39 in). There are about 900,000 parts from 1 to 10 cm. The current count of large debris (defined as 10 cm in diameter or larger) is 34,000.

How much space junk is actually around Earth?

There are over 20,000 known and tracked pieces of space junk orbiting the Earth, each traveling at around 15,000 miles per hour. They pose a risk to future space missions and nobody bothers to eliminate them.

Is the Tycho crater visible with the naked eye?

Tycho rays reach 1500 kilometers above the lunar surface and are easily visible to the naked eye. They make Tycho one of the few individual craters visible on the moon without a telescope.

Can we see the craters? Due to the lack of erosion or atmosphere, we can easily see these depressions. Earth, with the added help of weather, erosion, tectonics, and volcanism, has only a few hundred craters left to see.

Why is the Tycho crater always facing the Earth?

Why is Tycho crater always facing the earth? The moon is tidally locked to the earth’s rotation, and we always face the same side.

What does Tycho crater look like?

Tycho Crater is one of the most prominent craters on the moon. It appears as a bright patch in the southern highlands with rays of bright material stretching across much of the aside. Tycho’s notoriety is not due to his size.

Is Tycho crater visible?

Tycho Crater (80 km diameter) is one of the best preserved nearside impact craters. Its strikingly bright rays radiate outward over long distances and are easily visible even with a small telescope. The crater’s youth is evident in this oblique view, showing its sharp, fresh rim.
