WASHINGTON – Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas issued the following statement following the retirement announcement of James M. Murray, Director of the United States Secret Service:

“James Murray has been an exceptional director of the United States Secret Service. He has led with unwavering integrity, tireless dedication to mission and unwavering devotion to the well-being of his sovereign workforce. Under Director Murray’s leadership, the Secret Service has strengthened its status as the leading protecting body in the world and has sophisticated and expanded its investigative capabilities to meet an increasingly dynamic threat landscape.

“I have benefited enormously from the opportunity to rely on Director Murray as a trusted advisor and highly regarded Head of the Department of Homeland Security. I am grateful for his advice, judgment and steady hand through a myriad of challenges we have faced.

“Director Murray’s Secret Service leadership is the cornerstone of a remarkable career of more than thirty years of service to our country – with the United States Department of Transportation, U.S. Army Reserves and 27 years of U.S. Secret Service.

“I congratulate and thank Director Murray for his excellent service to our nation, and I wish him all the best in this next phase of his remarkable career.”
