More lacrosse and more storm. Yesterday’s game faced more weather challenges as some matches were moved to avoid the scheduled storm, but additional evening weather caused an extended delay for the final evening match.
The United States and Australia teams were left to wait two hours before playing, guiding players looking for ways to stay strong and ready to play.
The thing that I’m sure that we all wonder is, why did Charlotte North ever crave its coffee?
United States 16, Australia 5
The United States and Australia have a known history of stellar competition, especially on the World Championship stage. The last time this team met at the World Cup in the United States was back in 2005. The Australia topped the United States to win a gold medal, doubling up to US 14-7 down in Annapolis.
This is a different story in 2022, when the United States shifted its dominance to the Aussies in a 16-5 victory. On the same subject : The 10 must play 2022 video games so far.
After a prolonged weather delay, the match finally started after 10:00. Team USA first works out alongside the song “When It Rains It Pours” … a fitting choice.
Despite the wet weather and some lightning delays, lively spectators, sports wearing garb supporting both countries filled the stands.
Family, friends, and young fans, all stuck out to watch their teams full of competing idols.
Several legends and icons now take the field of the two teams, with one of the greatest who ever played, Jen Adams, coaching from the sideline as other legends such as Hannah Neilson, Kayla Treanor, Taylor Cummings and many more to fight.
Both teams came out of the gate fast, displaying an incredibly physical and energetic pace as the United States fought to maintain its dominance, while Team Australia strove to prove its worth.
Australia, out of a tough game against Canada from last night, showed grit and scrappy game from the start, while the United States settled into a soft and fast rhythm.
The United States won the first draw and held a lengthy possession, adjusting to their game plan and situation. After patient possession, Marie McCool notched her first four tallies to get things rolling for the US. Scoring opened with one of McCool’s four goals.
Shortly after, Australia took the loose ball at the end of their defense, quickly getting the ball up to Georgia Latch for an answer, tying the game 1-1.
The remaining 10 minutes play the same first period. Each side moved the ball efficiently, but met with a strong defense — keeping the low score matter at 2-1 after the first quarter.
The second quarter was a different story for the United States, as Taylor Cummings got the U.S. on the board just 1:10 into the foot.
The United States continued the pressure, rattling out eight straight goals to head into the half-time to 10-1.
Australia strives to take something after half, but the United States is too strong to collect it legally.
Whenever Australia played, the US got answers then some.
The US sealed its victory with two spectacular games to finish the match. Caylee Waters made a diving save, running from a few yards outside the goal circle to recover, which then led to a quick clear where Cummings found Ally Kennedy for the last score.
Marie McCool finished with the top four goals, while Kayla Treanor and Sam Appuzzo finished with six and five points, respectively.
Rebecca Lane paced Australia with a pair of goals.
Kayla Treanor won the Player of the Game award, finishing the match with a pair of goals and four assists.
England 18, Scotland 7
England won their third victory against Scotland, remaining undefeated in pool play so far. To see also : Tofa Zachtronics, Creating Great Video Games.
It was a physical war between the two countries, with much action between the early 30s. Scottish goalkeeper Emma Wauchpe made some key points in the first half, preventing England from retreating in the early minutes.
After a tight first quarter where England only led by goal, a second-quarter hat-trick from Olivia Hompe opened her lead towards the 10-5 half.
England kept the pressure in the third, scoring two goals the first half. Scotland worked tirelessly to solve England’s runs, sneaking in goals by do Nascimento-Emond and Grant, and causing some turnovers in the transition runs. England continued to have the answer, however, eventually outscore Scotland 6-1 to extend their lead to 10 into the final stanza.
England continued to dominate early in the fourth quarter but were cut short due to dangerous storms in the region. The game was canceled with 9:36 to play, as England won an 18-7 victory.
Hompe finished with five goals in the victory, while Torz Anderson and Megan Whittle both finished with a hat-trick and assist. England draw specialist, Olivia Wimpenny great, allowed seven balance controls to accompany the goal and assist.
Japan 19, China 1
The big day was other than Kokora Nakazawa helping Japan over China yesterday, when he scored seven points in Japan’s 19-1 victory. Japan jumped to the first win, with Nakazawa connecting with Maaya Taga just 42 seconds into the match. Japan didn’t look back, jumping out to a 7-1 win at halftime and then shutting China out for the entire second half.
Hong Kong 15, Austria 2
Hong Kong won their second tournament victory against Austria in a 15-2 game yesterday morning. Wing Yi Lam scored four goals and two assists to lead Hong Kong, with Steffi Sze and Mya Wang each adding a hat-trick.
Netherlands 7, Norway 4
A 3-0 second quarter was a difference maker as the Netherlands topped Norway, 7-4, to get their first World Cup victory. The efficiency of Sarah Sweerts de Landas Wyborgh is key, shooting three for three from the field to lead the Netherlands. Melle van Dilgt, Imke de Haan, and Linda Kuyvenhoven each added a pair of turnovers caused in a strong defensive effort.
Mexico 8, Italy 5
Mexico remain unbeaten on Day 5 of the World Cup after beating Italy yesterday morning. Daniela Eppler Lobato was impressive, scoring a hat-trick while adding four ground balls, four draw controls and three lead turnovers. Isabella McCollough made eight saves in the win as well. Italy were led by Stephanie Colson, who scored four goals, two draw controls and a turnover that resulted.
Latvia won their third victory, thanks to a strong first half performance where they jumped to a 4-1 victory and kept the cushion for a 9-5 victory. A balanced offense is the key, as Jamie Džeimija Lasda, Laura Baltmane, Laura Liepina, and Estere Urbančika all score a pair of goals. Urbančika also adds five balance controls, ground ball and turnover are caused.
Alexis Bell paced Jamaica with a pair of goals, three ground balls, and a turnover caused.
Israel 14, Puerto Rico 11
After entering the bottom half of the goal, Israel pulled out 5-2 in the third quarter to get the lead, eventually winning 14-11. Lindsey McKone led Israel with an outstanding seven -point performance (4G, 3A, 6 DC), while Dani Jacobstein added four goals and three draw controls alone.
Puerto Rico’s Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw tallied the game seven points as well (4G, 3A), and Brianna Carrasquillo notched the trick hat.
Sweden 9, Colombia 4
Sweden won their first victory in the tournament against Colombia yesterday, getting a 9-4 victory as a balanced offense is the key to success. Seven different players scored, with Sara Björk accompanying Sweden with two goals and one assist.
Colombian goalkeeper Vivian Owens kept the match within reach for most of the match, saving 12 saves.
Switzerland 8, Argentina 7
It took extra time to determine the winner, with Swiss’s Kristina Grovom finding a clean back in the overtime off pass from Anouk Andres. Tien Champion of the game was Grovom’s fourth shot and the game’s fourth goal. He also adds help and two balanced controls in a dominant performance. Andres adds his own hat-trick to accompany the winning assists.
Argentina is led by Mercedes ONeil (4G).
New Zealand 10, Spain 1
New Zealand overtook Spain, holding a 3-0 record to lead its pool. Eight players notched goals in the victory, with Nikki Fordyce pacing the offense with a pair of goals and assists. Fordyce adds four balanced controls to lead New Zealand.
Lyndsey Munoz made eight saves for Spain in the loss.
