SYDNEY—Travel insurance is becoming more popular than ever as people get back on the move. That is not necessarily a good thing for the companies that offer coverage.

Global insurers say they are selling more policies and at higher prices as travel recovers from the pandemic, with particularly strong support among young people. Some insurance companies have extended coverage to epidemics and pandemics that were previously excluded, offering protection against flight cancellations, lost luggage and medical assistance abroad.
