9. Video shows an Oregon rim bully attacking Oregon State fans after the Ducks lose to the Beavers

November video taken after the Ducks lost to the Otters shows Oregon’s edge bully DJ Johnson hitting an Oregon State fan in the back of the head.

In the video, Johnson can be seen walking from the Oregon sideline down the tunnel for the away team to the locker room as a fan wearing an Oregon State jersey gestures salute in his direction. Johnson then hit a fan in the back of the head and was separated by several UO support staff. It’s unclear what discipline Johnson will face from UO or other authorities.

The Oregon State Beavers defeated the Ducks in their annual competitive game in November. Then Washington University beat Washington State University in its next matchup in the Apple Cup. Eugene hosted the World Championships in Athletics this summer, attracting thousands of fans, lots of attention and tons of medals. More than 145,000 people attended in person. Anglers and managers were frustrated Thursday by the need to shut down recreational salmon fishing on the Columbia River from the popular Buoy 10 upriver to the Bonneville Dam.

6. Lower Columbia is closed to recreational anglers

Wildlife officials closed fishing downstream of the Bonneville Dam in September, despite indications that there could be more salmon in the river than usual. Anglers, fishing guides and wildlife managers were unhappy, including wildlife officials who said it “killed me to do this” and people who had planned vacations or trips with clients.

5. Co-owner Phil Knight and L.A. The Dodgers make an offer to buy the Blazers

Nike founder Phil Knight and minority owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers Alan Smolinisky in June offered $2 billion to buy the Portland Trail Blazers. The Blazers, for their part, responded by saying they remained “not for sale”. Despite speculation that the team would be sold soon after the death of former owner Paul Allen, as of 2016, the team remains under the control of Allen’s sister, Jody Allen, who is in charge of Paul Allen’s extensive estate.

Madison Shanley has been singing the National Anthem at Portland Timbers games since 2009, and her decision to wear a “You Knew” t-shirt as a message to the front office sparked discussion online.

3. The Timbers national anthem singer wore a ‘You Knew’ shirt after the scandal

Madison Shanley caused a bit of a stir in April when the longtime anthem singer for the Portland Timbers wore a T-shirt for a game that called out the front office for perceived failures in two off-the-field scandals.

A Major League Soccer investigation into how the Timbers handled allegations that player Andy Polo abused his wife found that the club failed to properly report the incident but made no attempt to cover it up. In a separate scandal, Thorns coach Paul Riley was accused of sexual coercion by multiple players.

Shanley, who later said he was a survivor of domestic violence and sexual assault himself, wore a red T-shirt emblazoned with “You Know”, despite requests that he not do so from the club passed to him through his father, an old friend of the club’s business president. Attempts to influence his decisions through the family seem to lead to certain offense.

“When I heard that my dad had been contacted, I was like, ‘What on earth is patriarchy all about?'” Shanley told The Oregonian/OregonLive. “I am a 27 year old woman. I have my own mind and my own voice.”

2. Portland Pickles failed (or succeeded?) on social media

The Portland Pickles attempted a Twitter takeover by their mascot, Dillon, with a photo of a green pickled man ostensibly giving a thumbs-up, but cropped in such a way as to make the photo obscene. The tweet has been liked nearly 70,000 times since then.

Pickles’ social media team isn’t sneaky, tagging Oscar Meyer’s company and men’s grooming company Manscaped in their tweets. However, the team said it would continue an “internal investigation” into what it referred to in another tweet as a “scandill”.

“We assure you that we are working hard to resolve this issue and this is a huge challenge for us,” the team tweeted the following day.

1. Spencer Webb of the Oregon Ducks fell to his death

Oregon Ducks tight end Spencer Webb was climbing a “near vertical” cliff near Triangle Lake July 13 when he lost his grip and fell to his death. The 22-year-old went hiking with his girlfriend and friends. A month later, her boyfriend announced on Instagram that she was expecting Webb’s child.

“We created an angel before heaven got him 🕊,” wrote Green, “all you wanted was to be a father… I know you will be the best from above. Can’t believe I had to do it without you, but knowing that I’ll have a piece of you keeps me going. I can’t wait to meet the person who is half you, half me. I love you forever, both of you ♾🕷🕸”
