The 2022 college football season is now starting towards the end of October. Some teams, at this point in the year, are aiming for ball suitability, while in other programs, coaches are trying to break free from the hot spot. Drama is heating up across the country as temperatures cool and the week 8 list on CBS Sports Network is loaded with quality action.
Kicking off the weekend on Friday night was Western Kentucky who rallied to defeat UAB 20-17 in a clash of US Conference contenders. Then on Saturday comes a series of four action games that will run from the noon window until well past midnight for East Coast viewers. In first place are Louisiana-Monroe and Army before a trio of conference games complete the day’s action.
Miami (Ohio) hosts western Michigan in a MAC battle in the afternoon before Mountain West takes center stage. A recovery team from Boise State travels to take on the Air Force and Nevada hosts San Diego State to complete the busy network weekend.

ULM at Army

Plot: The army is back in the win column with a 42-17 win over Colgate last week and will be looking for its first win over an FBS foe. ULM staged a late rally before falling 41-34 to South Alabama last week, marking the third straight defeat for the Warhawks. This will be only the second ever bout for the programs after Army won the first 37-7 in 2020.
Western Michigan at Miami (Ohio)

Plot: Western Michigan have won seven straight games in this MAC series which dates back to 2006. The Broncos will have to clean up a few things to keep the winning streak alive, having committed six turnovers in the 33-14 defeat to the team. Ohio last week. Miami (Ohio) also struggled up front last week losing 17-13 at Bowling Green, as the Redhawks generated only 189 total yards. The winner will improve to 2-2 in the league and reinvigorate his bowl hopes.
Boise State at Air Force

Plot: Boise State struggled out the gates during a 2-2 start, but the Broncos are alone at the top of their division and have been playing better offensively since Dirk Koetter stepped in as offensive coordinator in the last two games. The Air Force leads the nation in yards runs per game at 359.9 and averages fewer penalty yards per game than anyone else in the nation. The Falcons finished a four-game losing streak to Boise State last season, and this one has what it takes for a good one.
San Diego State at Nevada

Plot: Both teams are among the worst offensives in the nation, so this could be a defensive fight. The Nevada quarterbacks haven’t scored a touchdown in six games against FBS opponents this season. The state of San Diego underwent a change of offensive coordinator earlier this month with Jeff Horton replacing Jeff Hecklinski. He paid some dividends in a 16-14 win over Hawaii when the Aztecs amassed 417 total yards.
