These two prime-time games are a reward for our Thursday night penance. Two elite divisions matchups on Sunday and Monday, plus a bunch of chaos bombs raising eyebrows and lingering in the early window.

The two non-Chiefs Bills games in the late window are extremely “meh” at first glance. But a crazy NFC West shootout and Carolina playing spoilers could really turn the afternoon window into an entire day of misfortune.

Last week felt like a C+ or B drama week for the NFL. This one has the makings of some very bizarre twists and turns.

New York Giants

The Giants are the funniest question in football right now – is this start legit or will they fall behind? Regardless, Brian Daboll is universally loved, both by Giants fans and football fans in general. He’s such a damn worker. The only concern is New York’s return from London after a massive win against a very dangerous offensive. The Giants will shake things up because they can’t win on lockdown defense, but it’s going to take a lot for this team to slow down Lamar Jackson. I think we see a lot of points here assuming the prognosis stays benign, especially with Marcus Williams now in IR for Baltimore. I am picking the Ravens but if I were to bet on them I would take the first half line instead as New York is battling potential jet lag.

The Pick: Ravens 35, Giants 28Props, Best Bets: Over 45.5

Andy Dalton’s Revenge Game!! Cincy is ranked 31st in yards per game in the NFL this year, which would be shocking, except the Rams have the bigger punch at 32nd. Quite a steep fall for the reigning conference champions. These teams feel like traditional goalscorers, but both defenses are significantly better than the current iteration of offense. This game is an LSU FEST. Betting against Joe Burrow in Louisiana doesn’t feel wise, and I bet we’ll see a lot of Burrow jerseys in the stands from Saints fans appreciating what he did at LSU. I hardly have the Saints though.

Patriots at Browns

Indianapolis Colts

Insane stat: The Colts are the first team since the Chargers in 1995 not to concede a point in the fourth quarter of a game in five weeks of the season. Even crazier stat: If the Jaguars don’t score in the fourth quarter on Sunday, the Colts will become the first team since the 1934 Bears and the 1934 Lions not to concede a point in the fourth quarter in six games this season. Well, admittedly, it’s not just the Colts who are elite on defense — Jacksonville shut them down/blown them out a few weeks ago, and no one scored late. The Broncos stepped on their own foot last Thursday. Etc, etc., but still a crazy stat. The Jaguars are kind of the more desperate team here. The sub is so low that it’s hard to play, but hard to see where the points are coming from.

Jets at Packers

The pick: Jaguars 14, Colts 9bets: Lean Under and Jags

49ers at Falcons

Miami Dolphins

+3

Any discussion of this game is largely irrelevant without knowing the exact nature of the Miami quarterback situation. Skylar Thompson, the late-round rookie, was announced as the starter by Mike McDaniel. I think Teddy Bridgewater is playing (he never suffered a concussion according to the Dolphins, but changed protocols forced him to stay out of the game and miss practice). I’m willing to bet on the +3.5 he plays at the end and I think we’re seeing a lot of points in that game too.

Buccaneers at Steelers

Bill Belichick Revenge Game!!! The Patriots were written off a few weeks ago and the BB elogies were created. Then last week they put the lions in a sack. The radar still didn’t go up. What got my antenna in the air was Tom Curran — the funniest reporter on all the big NFL beats — (I think pretty funny personally, too) — of NBC Sports Boston praising Matt Patricia’s offense.

We all had a good laugh but the numbers are on par with last year and the Pats have a very profitable schedule ahead of them. Aside from the quality of the competition from this season’s teams, let’s acknowledge that Bill Belichick is set to play the Jets twice, the Browns once and the Colts once in six games. Bill might as well be Steve Buscemi writing names just before he gets that call from Billy Madison. The sixth opponent is the bears. Bailey Zappe (!) could also get hot in the Pats.

The Pick: Patriots 18, Browns 13Bets: Lean under and Pats

Cardinals at Seahawks

Aaron Rodgers is a complex individual, but he also has some very simple, very respectable, and very dangerous tendencies when questioned. Rodgers has Michael Jordan Level Malice Levers working in his head. There’s nothing quite like the way Tom Brady approaches Rodgers – he’s treated like a contemporary despite being seven years his junior. And Brady is still holding back because he knows Rodgers is a threat. Regardless, the Packers lost and Rodgers will likely split the Jets in this LaFleur vs. LaFleur matchup.

The pick: Packers 31, Jets 17bets: Packers -7

Cowboys at Eagles

Latest Odds:

Broncos at Chargers

Atlanta Falcons

+4

If we’re going to rig a franchise for a supposedly bad roster, we have to give credit to a coaching staff for exhausting that roster. The Falcons have played five games and have been in five one-score games. Arthur Smith is doing a really good job with the current Falcons roster and deserves credit for navigating the move between Matt Ryan and Marcus Mariota. He had nothing to do with it and still has the offense that is causing problems for people. If anyone gives these guys flak for using Smoke and Mirrors, be quick to remind them that this is coaching. I’m going with the Niners here, but if recent injuries are bad for San Francisco, I wouldn’t want to be on their side.

The Pick: 49ers 28, Falcons 24Bets: Pass
