Since early Friday night, eight employees have been made redundant at five Beasley-owned stations in the Boston market, including two at The Sports Hub: evening co-host Christian Arcand and longtime morning show producer Mike Lockhart.
Arcand has been in The Sports Hub since December 2017, and since June 2018 he has co-hosted “The Adam Jones Show” – which took first place in the summer rankings. He worked without a contract, but negotiated a three-year contract which he expected to sign shortly.
Lockhart was with the station even before it became a station, joining Toucher and Rich in January 2009 while she was still on the WBCN rock station, seven months before the format change to The Sports Hub. Lockhart’s dismissal infuriated hosts Fred Toucher and Rich Shertenlieb, who revealed their feelings to management after Friday’s concert.
Other Boston Beasley employees who fell victim to Friday’s cost cut include Julie Devereaux and Brian Bell at 105.7 WROR; Bobby Blaze on Hot 96.9; Jonathan Wier in the country of 102.5; Ken West, Program Director of Radio 92.9; and Joe Plett, Beasley’s production director.
In a brief statement, a spokesman for Beasley said: “Like other publicly traded responsible organizations, we are restructuring our business to reflect the reality of the country’s current economic challenges.”
While Beasley’s plans to cut costs were no secret, The Sports Hub staff had reason to believe they would be spared. The station is not only a huge success in the rankings, but is also one of the best billing stations in the country when it comes to advertising. In 2021, The Sports Hub brought in over $ 33 million, the highest of any sports station in the country and the fifth largest of any format or genre nationwide.
One of the reasons for the cuts is the fall in Beasley’s share price, which is just over a dollar per share. But that’s more than twice as much as recently achieved by the stock of Audacy – a competitor of WEEI. It was 34 cents a share on Friday afternoon.
Numbers game

Between 6 pm and 7 pm, The Sports Hub, hosted by Tony Massarotti, took 17.2 places in first place. At the same time, WEEI, who often has a Red Sox pre-match show here, finished 16th with a score of 2.6. Part of this is because Baseball Hour has a large chunk of Felger and Mazz’s audience, but it’s still a shockingly large discrepancy between stations.
On The Adam Jones Show night, The Sports Hub had a 10.7 to the first, while WEEI, with Red Sox broadcasts and “Mut at Night”, came in sixth with a score of 4.6.
