Paramount + has planted the UK flag in a big way in recent months and research in Ampere Analysis today reveals that streamer turned the UK’s green session into the age of Netflix in the first half of this year.
Paramount +, which launched £ 6.99 ($ 8.37) a month in the UK three weeks ago with some of its biggest stars in London, ordered 13 UK shows from January to May 2022, three behind Netflix and ahead of rivals.
With Discovery + being the third of six, Amazon ordered five, Apple TV + three and Disney + only two, although the investigation only includes commissions that have been made public.
Paramount + is putting a large portion of its energy and resources into non-US commissions and high-budget sessions from the UK, including Kenneth Branagh’s A Gentleman in Moscow, a remake of Sexy Beastren and David Beckham’s Studio 99 Premier League millionaire series .
Of the 13 green lights, eight were documentaries, including three crime and thriller genres, a reality show and a drama.
Ampere Analysis Analyst Zuzane Henkova Paramount + spoke about its ability to enter the UK market due to its distribution agreement with Sky.
“This will help them meet the challenges by providing immediate access to subscribers,” he added.
“An important distinguishing feature of Paramount + is the content made in the UK and this will also be key to attracting Sky’s customer base, as the average content of the UK content is heavier.”
Ampere also voiced fears of subscribers refusing to add another streamer to their monthly outings, saying the UK average house is entering 2.7 SVoD, behind the US, however, where the average is four.
