North Allegheny’s Sophia Palermo battles for the ball against Fox Chapel on September 14.

The first day of fall brings another hot day across the district, along with a scorching matchup at the WPIAL Class 6A women’s soccer field.

Before the mercury drops in the days ahead, the first big showdown between the powerhouses of Section 1-6A North Allegheny and Seneca Valley will take place in Harmony.

The Tigers have been perfect this season, winning all six section matches while going 10-0 overall.

The Raiders are yet to lose this season. They are 5-0-2 in section play, 6-0-2 overall with those draws against Fox Chapel and Pine-Richland.

A year ago, North Allegheny swept the regular season series, winning both games by scores of 2-0. The Tigers were upset in the 4A quarter-finals last fall while the Raiders reached the title game before falling short to Moon.

Seneca Valley has won five District Women’s Soccer Championships, most recently in 2018. North Allegheny has two WPIAL titles, won in 2019 and 2020.

There are several other key matches scheduled for Wednesday in WPIAL Women’s Soccer, including Tests for Mt. Lebanon and Mt. Pleasant.

The Blue Devils and Vikings hit the road for big sectional showdowns. Mt. Liban (5-0) visits neighbor Bethel Park (5-1) with the top spot in Section 2-4A up for grabs.

Mt. Pleasant (3-0) travels to neighboring Southmoreland (4-0) for a fight for first place in Section 3-2A.

Two more games on Wednesday with first place on the line see South Park (4-0) visiting Keystone Oaks (3-0-1) in Division 4-2A and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (3-0) hosting Winchester Thurston ( 4-0) in section 4-A.

The 2022 WPIAL Individual Golf Sections will end on Wednesday with the spotlight on the girls.

The first round of the District Finals will take place on September 26 at Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport and the second round is scheduled for October 3 at Valley Brook Country Club in Canonsburg.
