The voyage of Georgia No. 3 towards the potential to become the first repeat national champion in the College Football playoff era starts Saturday in a familiar place against some familiar faces. The Bulldogs will face Oregon number 11 and former Auburn starting quarterback Bo Nix as the 17-point favorite with a short drive from Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which, of course, is the annual home of the SEC Championship Game. Meanwhile, former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning – one of last season’s defense architects in Athens – will face his mentor, Kirby Smart, in Lanning’s first game as head coach.

Will it change now that it’s playing in the Pacific Northwest? Perhaps. He has some decent and tight end receivers to work with and familiar with offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham from their time together with the Tigers. Nix has had many ups and downs over the course of his career, but there doesn’t seem to be much in between. Saturday afternoon he will have to give his best.
How will Bennett handle a unique bout ?: There is a narrative out there that the Bulldogs senior quarterback is still a game manager despite a stellar fourth quarter in January leading up to the national title victory over Alabama. It has lost several key wide receivers, including Jermaine Burton and George Pickens, but Georgia has one of the deepest and most talented narrow rooms in college football history. Will Brock Bowers and Co. help their quarterback get out and open one-on-one fights deep in the field? This is the idea for offensive coordinator Todd Monken, and it will be fascinating to see Bennett put it into action.
